A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck off the coast of Okinawa province in southwestern Japan on Thursday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The quake occurred at 07:45 GMT, about 18 kilometers (11.1 miles) north of Yonaguni Island, at a depth of 108.5 kilometers (67.4 miles). Tremors were also felt in Taipei, the capital of neighboring Taiwan.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or structural damage. Japanese authorities have not issued a tsunami warning.
