The Olivier Award-nominated hit play is presented by Lincoln Center Theater, bringing over the Royal Shakespeare Company and Good Chance’s production from London.
Lincoln Center Theater has set the complete cast for its fall production of Kyoto off Broadway, the Olivier Award-nominated play from London now running at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater from October 8, ahead of opening night on November 3.
Joining the previously announced Tony Award nominee Stephen Kunken, who reprises his role from London as Don Pearlman, are two other cast members from the U.K. production: Jorge Bosch, an Olivier Award nominee for playing Raul Estrada-Oyuela; and Ferdy Roberts as U.K./Prescott/Houghton. The Kyoto cast also includes Peter Bradbury as Fred Singer, Kate Burton as USA, Feodor Chin as China, Erin Darke as Germany, Natalie Gold as Shirley, Daniel Jenkins as Gore/Bolin/Santer/Observer, Dariush Kashani as Saudi Arabia, Rob Narita as Japan, Imani Jade Powers as Secretariat, Roslyn Ruff as Tanzania, and Taiana Tully as Kiribati.
Understudies include Odera Adimorah, Zoe Cipres, Luis Carlos de La Lombana, and Paul Juhn.
Joe Murphy and Joe Robertson’s play is set at the Kyoto Conference Centre on December 11, 1997, when world nations are in a deadlock and under a time crunch to come to a climate change agreement — with the greatest obstacle being American oil lobbyist and strategist Don Pearlman.
“At Lincoln Center Theater, we believe theater is where we wrestle with the questions of our time — with rigor, with imagination, and with heart,” said Lear deBessonet, artistic director of LCT, in a statement. “Kyoto is a play that does just that, continuing in the tradition of plays that bring the global stage and the complexities of the world to LCT audiences.”
Kyoto also features set design by Miriam Buether, costume design by Natalie Pryce, lighting design by Aideen Malone, sound design by Christopher Reid, video design by Akhila Krishnan, original music by Paul Englishby, and dramaturgy by Gemma Stockwood.
