  1. Hearing they're coming back makes me happy, traditions surviving despite the attempts to squash them is wonderful

  2. "prevent them from being taken to Japan" is both extremely funny and extremely upsetting when you realise what it means

  3. More Okinawan content pweaaase… though, I love everything Japanese-related 🫢🏼

  4. I love seeing more folks returning to their traditional body art. I've always found Japan's disapproval of tattoos a shame, because they have beautiful tattooing styles.

  5. β€œPeople with tattoos could be fined or jailed” is WILD when it’s not like people who got tattoos BEFORE that law went into effect could just stop having tattoos (which was probably an intentional cruelty of the law).

  6. I got a tattoo while in Japan a couple months ago, my first infact. It wasn't easy to book in advance. There's less shops in Tokyo than there are in my Portland metro town. I had a great experience getting it, an my artists did an amazing job. I saw plenty of tattoo while there too, though usually on caucasians. It's certainly a shifting culture, but long ways to go.

  7. If/when I go back to Japan, I'd love to see Okinawa. I've got a lot of other places to go first though before cycling back to countries I've been to before, and I don't get to do major travels often. The draw is that while yes it's a rapidly changing area, it's still it's own thing compared to mainland. Maybe I'll pick up a second tattoo

  8. The soldiers of the Inquisition killed an incredible number of people in Europe. They did it to get rid of the spiritual in favor of those who wanted power over truth, health and money. Witches? They invented them, to get rid of them. Familiar??

  10. I hadn’t realised how much the Okinawan people were oppressed by the Japanese government. It’s so encouraging to see them embracing their culture again and returning to their traditional body art.

  11. Pigalisme your voice is so creamy and comforting…. Perfect ASMR…. I know nobody with a voice which comes close to yours…
