Before the game against Nippon-Ham on the 20th (Rakuten Mobile), Wacky of the comedy duo Penalty threw the first pitch. Although the pitch was fast, it went far to the left of home base and ended up in backstop. He said with a wry smile, “It’s really embarrassing… In practice, I said, ‘Pyuu’.” When he performed his signature gag on mound, he said, “It felt like it slipped a bit… I guess that’s what made him shaken up.”

In 2020, he was diagnosed with oropharyngeal cancer and took a break to focus on treatment. He has now returned to the field, but he says he is still suffering from aftereffects. He appeared wearing a T-shirt with the words “Overcome cancer. Live.” on his chest and said, “I thought of those who are suffering from cancer, those who are fighting the disease, doctors and nurses, and I felt that I would continue to work.” Regarding aftereffects such as his loss of taste, he explained, “It’s not that I’m fighting (the aftereffects), but that I’m becoming friends with them. That’s the feeling I get.” He reflected, “The stadium was warm, and I felt an overall comfortable atmosphere.”
