A man has died after reportedly being attacked by a bear in Hokkaido, northern Japan. Police are investigating details around Fukushima Town.
A witness reported to police just before 3 a.m. on Saturday that a man had been attacked by a bear in the town’s Mitake district.
Police searched the area and found the body of a newspaper delivery man in his 50s. He was found lying in the bushes and was confirmed dead at the scene.
They believe he was attacked by a bear and that the animal may still be nearby. Residents are asked to refrain from nonessential outings.
The site of the attack is in an area lined with houses and an elderly care home, about 700 meters north of the town hall.
