Built in 1863, Glover House is the oldest surviving Western-style residence in Japan. It was home to Thomas Blake Glover, a Scottish merchant who played a key role in Japan’s modernization during the Meiji era. He supported the introduction of railways, shipbuilding, and even helped establish what would become Mitsubishi.
