From Hakodate’s salty breeze, we crossed quiet valleys toward Niseko under soft spring skies, where low clouds and drifting fog hid the mountains. At the Nikka distillery, the air was rich with wood and whisky, a calm pause before arriving in Sapporo’s bright, unfolding streets.
