I’d assume a “sports” mode since the shift interlock release button is the square one.
Any lights or “S” on the dashboard with it engaged? Listen for the engines revs being going higher or bring held for longer between shifts.

On my old Aristo it had a similar button on the side of the shifter that kept it from switching into OD or 4th gear, so I’m guessing it would probably be something similar?

Its “snow” mode, makes the car take off in 2nd gear instead of 1st to reduce wheelspin
