Tokyo Seaside & Mountain Day Trips | Kamakura & Mt. Takao | japan vlog

Hey everyone 🙂 How has your week been? Today I’ll be taking you along with me to Kamakura, a seaside town 1 hour away
from Tokyo We have arrived at Kamakura station This is a popular Tokyo day trip destination A fun fact: The Japanese word for ‘frog’ sounds like the word ‘to return’ That’s why you’ll sometimes see frog figures at the end of train lines,
as lucky charms for a safe return home Let’s catch the train to our first stop: Kokomae Station The train first passes through residential streets Then little by little, the seaside scenery starts peeking through This is where you can catch the iconic ‘Slam Dunk’ train scene which is a short 2-3 minutes walk to the left & here we are I caught a blue train passing It was abit hard to get the green one as the spot was getting busy! Would recommend coming before 8am if you want a clear shot Our next stop is a restaurant that serves traditional Japanese breakfast Located inside a beautiful old Japanese house You can watch the trains go by while enjoying your meal For a seat by the window you’ll have to book online in advance I’ll leave the link in the description I’m excited to try their fluffy cloud eggs I’m excited to try their fluffy cloud eggs The catch is you’ll have to whisk it yourself First separate the egg yolk from the egg whites The yolk is so orange Then whisk away! The train actually stops in front of the restaurant Then you make a ‘well’ in your cloud egg & sprinkle with some soy sauce It’s paired with a simple salted fish and miso soup This is my first time having raw egg It didn’t taste too bad but I would prefer a cooked one Let’s head to the beach next You can see Mount Fuji here on a clear day Unfortunately the clouds are blocking Fujisan today Here’s a photo my dad took on a clear day! Quick Tully’s coffee break I’ve been loving their chai lattes Let’s explore the town itself Looks like its quite a big job to keep the trees perfectly trimmed This temple was founded in 736 AD,
making it one of the oldest temples in Kamakura A few more steps into the temple and you’ll notice hundreds of tiny statues These are Jizō statues, which represent the souls of children who have passed away More than 50,000 Jizo statues have been offered here since WWII There’s also a beautiful koi pond within the temple grounds The temple is also perched on a hill, offering a romantic view of the city There’s a tiny bamboo forest Let’s check out the ocean view path There’s a little bit of a hike up It’s beautiful up here Came across this cute store It’s unmanned and you pay by putting money in a box There’s some cute little trinkets for sale I want to come back next time to try some of the cafes here This sound like something out of Harry Potter This temple houses the Great Buddha of Kamakura This is the second tallest bronze Buddha in Japan You can go inside the statue for a fee too But I think I’ll pass today Giant pair of slippers for the giant Buddha statue Kamakura also has a shopping street that’s great for food and souvenirs There’s a really cute Studio Ghibli store here Everything here is so whimsical Love that they catch the detail of the tiled bath too Seems like this is the snack to go for when you’re in Kamakura There’s abit of a queue, it’s super popular I got the blueberry and cream cheese flavour It’s really delicious I love anything that’s cream cheese flavoured in Japan There’s loads of other snacks that’s Buddha themed Dinner time My dad recommended me this restaurant I got their signature slow-cooked chicken broth ramen with additional toppings 😋 The broth is thick and creamy The broth is thick and creamy We’re starting the day early today so having breakfast at Tully’s It’s a chain coffee shop that usually opens from 7am, so its great for those
early morning starts I love their savoury bakery items, the bread they use are so soft Today is the 2nd of January 2025 I was planning to hike Mt. Takao and be at the summit to ring in 2025 But honestly, I felt like it would be too crowded and too cold I decided to do Hatsumōde on the 2nd instead Hopefully, there will be fewer crowds than on the 1st The closest station to Mt Takao is about an hour away from Shinjuku station I’ve got my hiking boots on and so does everyone else! The queue for the tickets isn’t too bad surprisingly I’m going to take the cable car up and the chairlift down These people must have gone up really early The journey up takes about 6 minutes Alternatively, you can hike up which takes about 1-2 hours & we’re here! The top is lined with food stalls selling snacks If you come during the New Year, you’ll be able to try their barrel sake too I brought my own breakfast up here today Starting the year with a tuna mayo onigiri Let’s head to Yakunoin temple, the main temple on Mt Takao Hatsumōde is the tradition of visiting a shrine or temple for the first
time in the New Year It’s to pray for good fortune for the year coming Even though it was busy, there was a calmness to it that I really enjoyed You can wash your money here in sacred water & the money will return to you multiplied It’s a singular route that will lead you up to more temples and shrines We’ve reached Takaosan Yakuōin Yukiji Temple This temple was built in 744 AD, which is over 1200 years ago The wood carvings are so intricate & right next to it there’s a little shrine with lots of fox figurines & one with lots of tiny wooden slippers With some massive ones next to it This looks very difficult to walk in Let’s head to the peak of the mountain The sky is so clear today This is where we would have been if we came for the sunrise I see Fujisan Everyone’s here to see this view Fujisan has a little hat on Let’s head down to the cable cars via the 4th trail It’s a very well-paved trail You’ll be able to cross the Miyama suspension bridge on this route too A mountaintop teahouse There’s 2 queues, one for outdoor seating and one for indoors I’d definitely recommend the outdoor seating as you can enjoy your meal
with a view We got an oden & a wild vegetable soba I really enjoyed this daytrip up the mountains Time to head down & what better way to finish the trip with something sweet & what better way to finish the trip with something sweet Wonder which flavour I should get I got a chocolate strawberry shortcake with a latte It’s creamy and indulgent It’s really delicious! Thank you for joining me today I’ll see you on the next one!

I took a day trip from Tokyo to the beautiful seaside town of Kamakura.
