My friends supra is hunting in idle, were not sure why. No dash lights, no dtcs. Replaced maf sensor and idle air control valve, issue persists.
Surges from about 1200-2000 rpm as seen. It's a distributor 2jz ge, rather than coil pack. It's a long shot, but does anyone have any idea what the issue could be? Thanks

Have you checked the throttle body and tps wiring?
Checked for a vacuum leaks? Maybe a stuck open EGR valve if your friends engine has that?
Does it do this when the engine is hot and cold?
Supra can’t wait for you to send it, it’s just anticipation revs
In my experience with Toyotas of this era, a hunting idle is usually caused by a dirty IACV or there is air in the cooling system.
Maybe a faulty MAP sensor?
