The annual Hydrangea Festival at Kazahaya-no-Sato takes place in early summer, usually held around June. Spread across 65,000 square meters, this garden, which was once a golf course, offers a vast panorama of colorful hydrangeas blooming across its varied landscape.

Kazahaya no Sato opened in 2004 as the first garden in Japan to incorporate horticultural activities with social welfare programs. Here, people with disabilities and staff work together to cultivate a wide variety of seasonal flowers, such as plum blossoms, wisteria, and hydrangeas.

The number of hydrangeas increases yearly, and as of 2024, around 77,700 bushes of 45 different varieties fill the garden. In recent years, it has become a popular destination for international tourists, and the stunning views of hydrangeas have been featured in various media.

Within the garden, you will find Hana no Oka Shrine, which enshrines Prince Shotoku, a semi-legendary figure from the Asuka Period (538 – 710).Here, you can get goshuin, traditional shrine stamps that are popular as souvenirs.

After wandering the garden, you can sooth your tired feet in a warm footbath. During the Hydrangea Festival, light refreshments are also available, allowing for a relaxing break among the sea of flowers.
