The iconic mountain is in its second year of restrictions to manage the influx of climbers.

Climbers from the Yamanashi Prefecture side are required to make reservations in advance and pay a 4,000 yen entrance fee, which has doubled since 2024 for conservation and other purposes.

The fee will also be upped to 4,000yen for climbers from the Shizuoka Prefecture side that will open on July 10.

Visitors must receive a wristband upon entry to the mountain.

To prevent unplanned climbing, the gate at the entrance to the trail will close at 2PM, two hours earlier than last year.

The authority of rangers will be strengthened, and they will be able to block climbers who are judged underdressed.

According to the National Police Agency, the number of foreign visitors who got lost in the mountains in 2024 stood at 135, the second highest since statistics began in 2018.

23 of them got lost at Mt. Fuji.
