The creator behind 428: Shibuya Scramble, Jiro Ishii, has officially announced the title of his next live-action adventure: Shibuya Scramble Stories. The name was revealed during a June 28 update for the ongoing crowdfunding campaign, which continues to draw strong support from fans.

Title locked in, campaign still going strong

Shibuya Scramble Stories

Ishii’s “Shibuya Live-Action Adventure Project” began earlier this spring with a successful launch on Japanese crowdfunding platform Ubgoe. After opening on May 28, the campaign quickly surpassed its initial ¥5 million goal and has since pulled in over ¥33.6 million, about 672% of the target, with nearly a month still left. The team now aims to hit a symbolic ¥42.8 million before the campaign closes on July 25.

The newly announced Shibuya Scramble Stories was chosen from suggestions submitted by backers. Alongside the title, the team unveiled a matching logo and introduced new merch-based reward tiers, including branded T-shirts and tote bags.

Familiar cast and format return

While not a direct sequel, Shibuya Scramble Stories brings back some familiar names. Masakazu Arai (known for Machi: Unmei no Kōsaten) and Fumio Kitakami (428) will both appear in the game, and key staff from 428 are also involved. Scenario writing is handled by Yukinori Kitajima, with music by Hideki Sakamoto and art direction from Tarō Minoboshi.

The project will maintain the still-photo, text-heavy presentation and multi-perspective narrative structure that defined Ishii’s earlier works. It is currently being developed as a prototype, with full-scale production dependent on further funding and partnerships. Platforms have not been announced.

Thanks for the heads up, Kars.
