Already Summer came to Tokyo? Akihabara Budget Friendly In-station Restaurant, Ameyoko & Ueno Ep.573

[Music] oh my goodness it’s super hot today it was 30° right now it becomes 29 but feels like already summer has came it’s still end of May though yes finally we came back to Tokyo today we are at Tokyo station heading to Akihabala station and also Weno area after golden week which is one of the biggest holiday in May i thought there will be fewer travelers but seems like there are so many travelers still in Japan now but not as many as the golden week though so in this video let me talk about the Japan travel situation right now and also future travel situation in Japan by the way we are at the side of Tokyo station there are the bus terminal over there if you are taking bus from Tokyo station most likely you are taking bus from here still there are so many people having big luggage that means they are international travelers and that’s a bus heading to the Narita airport if you are taking a bus from Tokyo station heading to Narita airport this number seven bus terminal this is the place that you need to take the bus in order to taking a bus you don’t have to make a reservation you can just come over to walk in when the busy season usually line goes all the way down however today yeah it’s not that crowded compared to the busy season oh seems like something happened here maybe because it was too hot and that’s a line for taxi wow that’s a long line compared to before feels like taxi line gets longer probably because temperature gets much hotter it’s super humid in Japan if you walk outside in the hot weather you sweat a lot you feel like you are in this tin loom so that’s why many people don’t want to walk outside i still enjoy walking though so we are taking the train from Tokyo station to Akihabara but beforehand let’s go check up the food street in Tokyo Station it’s in the downstairs Tokyo Ichibangai first avenue of Tokyo station there’s a ramen street and also the snack shops Character Street also the souvenir shops too it is a long fun street i just walk here on Sunday a little bit over here but compared to the weekend there are much fewer people that’s how it usually looks like though and this is the entrance of ramen street inside here there are many different kinds of ramen shop well it might look same but uh there are the explanation for example this one it’s the rich taste and the thin noodle compared to this one it’s a light taste and a thin noodle if you just arrived to Tokyo or if you’re tired this rich taste thick ramen well could be too heavy so if you’re tired probably you want to choose this light taste with the thin noodle in Japanese that rich taste called and for me that rich taste ramen uh I’m okay some people really loves that rich taste flavored ramen but for me it’s just too oily so for me I usually prefer the lighter taste even it’s light taste but there are rich flavor inside so you know it’s not really like light lighting still it’s a rich flavors inside too but there are so many people who love hot taste though now we are at character street there are more people over here that’s a Kong which is really popular Japanese anime and also Manton Detective Konang i think this place used to be a different shop but seems like they are having the detective Konan shop now they always change the store so it is fun to explore it is the jump shop if you come over here during the busy time you have to be in line to enter the store but today seems like not that many people over here there is a Kirby cafe and also camel rider shop camel rider is popular TV show in Japan which has a long history one of the signature they always transform by those bel so it’s one of the popular thing for the command rider oh here it’s the one piece shop also the Pokémon store upstairs which is relatively new over here and that’s a chi kawa shop i think this is a cat i’m not sure but it’s very popular in Japan now recently there was a news that McDonald’s made a happy set which is the kids menu items it has a small toys of Chiaawa and it become chaotic on the opening day in the morning there are so many retailer visit McDonald’s and they just get the toy but also they have to get the food so there are so many foods worth trash in McDonald’s yeah it is that popular and there are so many reselling on the internet stores interesting so here they always have the pop-up store seems like they are having a new stuff now next to it there is a Giblly shop also that’s a Tamika shop it’s very popular car toy for the kids oh this one seems like Transformers nice oh they are having the Sanrio Club version too and that one is Disney Donald’s popcorn car plus i like this one the Dragon Ball King one so cute 1,220 Japanese yen for that Dragon Ball one oh and also they have a Star Wars and the Kimoa Demon Slayer sweet it’s always great meeting with you guys hello i can see you soon sweet it’s always great meeting with you guys if you’ve seen me in the street don’t forget to g to me so that I can realize you want to be viewers so see you soon in Japan all right let’s go to Akihabara Station by the way those are the coin lockers in Tokyo in Tokyo station the small one cost 500 Japanese yen which is like a backpack size and if you have a big luggage it cost 900 Japanese yen you can price the checkin luggage too usually compared to the price in Tokyo and Osaka Tokyo is more expensive however only the luggage price it’s more expensive in Osaka I believe because of the Osaka Expo right now Osaka it cost 1,200 Japanese yen for the checkin luggage and in Tokyo it’s 900 Japanese yen so it cost about 1.5 times in Osaka now when I first time seated at the number station I was so surprised everything going up now also this is something new and interesting now they have a SS size coin locker too uh I’m not sure what stands for maybe super small it is a small coin lockers if you have a small back or you have a small souvenir but you don’t want to carry you can always use that the price is 300 Japanese yen and it seems like still there are plenty of spaces it’s open if you see that green light that means available and if you see that red light that means it’s occupied when the busy season comes all of the coin lockers are occupied but seems like today we have plenty of spaces and here we go this is the entrance recently there are much fewer entrance that we can use the paper ticket so if you visit in Japan make sure to get a train IC card if you are comfortable using the internet you can always get it on the internet but you can also get one at the airport also in front of the train station too so make sure to get one you can use it at the vending machine shops conveni it is very convenient you can pre-charge the money and you can just pay it with it so I recommend it akihabada station is two stations away from Tokyo station if you are taking the train you can take either Kishinto line or Yamanote loop both of the train heading to Akihabara station we got to go upstairs now we are at Granda Tokyo inside the Tokyo station there are many restaurants and souvenir shops there are plenty of store outside of Tokyo station but if you can’t find a favorite one there are many stores inside the Tokyo station too so just remember for it they used to have the nebuta big object over here but seems like it’s gone now all right so let’s keep walking so here we go truck number three and four whichever comes first we can take that train oh seems like the blue one took line is just gone now so we can wait for Yamanote R which is a green one it goes to Winnow 2 yeah feels like already summer has came everyone wearing the t-shirts now number four for your safety please stand behind the yellow line so many people taking off the train at Tokyo station so usually if you want to take the train from Tokyo station will not that be crowded let’s go it only takes 4 minutes yeah here please change your line local service the TV subway line and now we arrived to Akihabana station by the way that’s my favorite spot at UDX building seems like there are several peoples over there but still there are many empty seat too we will be there later you will see where it is so let’s keep walking let’s go i love walking in Akihabala in a beautiful days those are all gachapons there are so many gachapon store in Akihabala look at this gachapon also sh interesting and this shai gachapon it’s so cute oh also it’s my first time to see this gacha koshino la prince nice we usually go to electric town gate but today we are going to show gate first this looks so Akihabara oh really they are having the Okakama customer tanking day steak car is only 840 Japanese wow oh so this must be the one 840 Japanese yen steak curry interesting why not let’s do it so we got buy the ticket over here interesting so 840 they usually sell the soba and the udo you can buy the tempura separate tree too oh looks pretty good this chicken templar two for 300 Japanese yen and also this shrimp one 300 Japanese yen which is pretty big all right here we go and we have a steak sauce here too nice sweet well compared to the outside one looks a little bit different but you know it always happens at the McDonald’s so I don’t mind and we can get the order over here there are the places that you can sit down to but I chose to understand the standing because this place it’s much easier to film so anyways let me try [Music] it is not the spicy but nice curry flavor loving it and how about the steak over here [Music] actually it is pretty soft and also the nice meat flavor oh it’s not as fancy as to you know nice steak but if you were just eating with a curry and thinking about the price it’s pretty good in a big city usually we have this kind of places that you can quickly order and it serves really fast this is like exactly fast food if you order the udong or soba they can serve you in less than a minutes literally if you are a super busy man and you want to eat it as fast as possible those SOA and Udong restaurants you can always use and prices are pretty cheap too that was pretty good thinking about the price loving it so let’s go to the showori exit there is another gachapon square and showori this way oh Kir’s third anniversary i thought that’s a old anime but uh oh maybe from that series it’s the third anniversary so Electric Town gate is the west side of Akihabala station and now we are at the Shawi exit which is the east side by the way from Tokyo station to Akihabala station it cost 146 Japanese yen akihabara is a very popular station for the international travelers but most of them only visit west side of Akihabara and the northeast side well to be honest east side of Akihabara nothing much over here there are many company exist in Akihabara and this east side is more like the company places also drinking places oh there is an upper hotel too must be cheaper compared to the electric town gate area and that’s Kandagawa one of the most popular river in Tokyo oh interesting there is a old store what is that that’s a classic store it says okonomi tempura oh they have the okonomiyaki too interesting shoe preparing so it’s not open yet though Stan Sa Tokyo so it’s like the pretty similar restaurant that where we were it is a big street if we want to cross the street we got go all the way up or all the way down over here so let’s use the stairs it is the highway the train station is one street over i like the view from here and now we are at other side of the street oh my goodness the curry that’s okay well it is a Japanese curry so it wouldn’t say even it’s a white cloth I believe so should be fine oh by the way hey guys welcome back to Rice TV i’m Ryan S please don’t forget to check my Instagram too all right so let’s keep walking now we are walking toward to electric town gate area by the way today’s sunset time is 6:42 compared to the winter season sunset time become much late during the winter season it used to be like 5:30 but now it becomes later than 6:30 so I felt like I got the extra hour loving it when it becomes summer it will be even longer sunset time becomes around 7:30 since we don’t have a summer time there will be a big differences so if you are visiting here during summer or winter you need to make a plan differently just keep in your mind and here we go now Kafur Abashi we are already almost at the main street of Akihabara if you are walking from Tokyo station you will walk this street too so this is the Kandagawa and that’s a bridge where we were we just came one block over after you cross this street you will realize where we are yes it is the entrance of JR station so this is one of the most popular square do you realize where we are if you do you’re almost Akihabala master now that’s the main street of Akihabara and the Sakma building over here yeah Kumo building and here it is a discounted ticket store and oh they have a French fry discounted ticket too yeah that’s a McDonald’s discounted ticket let me get one so I got the three of them basically this is a share for the benefit program well usually they have a coupon on their McDonald’s app but sometimes they don’t then sometimes I have to buy with the regular price which is 380 Japanese yen for the large size French fries i feel it’s expensive so usually I use this discounted ticket because 240 Japanese yen compared to the regular price 140 Japanese yen cheaper uh well this one will expire on September so I still have uh about a half an year it’s long enough yes I love McDonald’s French fries it works for me so let’s keep walking in Akihabara after turn this corner it is the main street of Akihabara they have a pedestrian zone on Sunday but on the weekday they don’t since the side street is pretty narrow so usually there are so many people on the street always there are so many international travelers over here yeah it is one of the most popular town in Tokyo in Osaka compared to Akihabala there are more Asian travelers you know because it’s closer and also there are big Korean community in Osaka that’s one of the reason why well you know many people visit Japan firstly they come to Tokyo and Kyoto maybe Hiroshima those places and eventually visiting Osaka yep still Osaka is a nice place though well after they made I resort probably it will change a little bit hopefully sweet it’s always great meeting with you guys hello are you ready see loving it if you see me on the street don’t forget to go to me see you in Japan so let’s keep walking it’s a big camera one of the biggest apparance store in Japan let’s go check out my favorite spot too speaking of electric appliances this is one of my favorite electric appliances it’s a rail pocket basically it is a neck cooler you can just place it on your neck and it will cool you down it’s not like makes you super cool but definitely it’s much better without this neck cooler or not so I always use this and it becomes my favorite gadget during the winter time this one becomes warmer and warm you up after getting this i don’t usually use the heat pack well except super cold day but usually I can use this and I can charge it the battery so it’s my favorite today seems like they are start selling the new one of this well if it has a big upgrade definitely I will get one yeah because I always walk outside and yeah neck cooler works perfectly there is a jacket with a fan inside but usually that fan makes sound so this neck cooler it’s really quiet and not that seenable so that’s why my favorite oh yeah this is the one real pocket pro oh really touching places becomes double and also the battery life becomes double too h interesting how about the price oh 29,700 h interesting well but uh I use every day and you know the Japan summer it’s pretty hot so maybe I will get one well probably well if I get one I will let you guys know if it worth it or not in the future videos please quarantine now we are at UDX building oh interesting now they have a self free drink in the terrace seat or you can drink 1,200 Japanese yen they have a premium bolts and also hibu hi bowl whiskey soda plus lemon sour too that’s nice or you can drink a terrace seed with 1,200 Japanese yen pretty good deal well you have to order one food though but uh still it’s a good price so let’s go inside inside there are many restaurants compared to the main street usually those restaurants much fewer people so that’s why this is one of my favorite spot in Akihabara and my favorite spot is just other side of the UDX building here we go oh you know what usually there are not that many people over here but uh today seems like there are people still there are empty seats but compared to the usual time there are more yep that’s a Yaman Rupine it is heading to Okachimachi station aoko and Ueno station interesting it’s so Akihabara it says Mo Kajino mo Casino well gambling is illegal in Japan so it must be the amusement one though i know how about pacinko right yes it is gambling however in the legal term it is not the gambling it is the entertainment speaking of the system of pachinko if you win the pachinko you can get the small stuff you can’t directly change it to the money because it is illegal but always you can change that small item to the money right next door to the pachinko which doesn’t cooperate together so it is not the gambling that’s what the Japanese government says but it’s so gambling i know i I know you know pachinko has a long history and it becomes the huge industry in Japan it’s 3% of GDP of Japan so that’s why they can’t just cut it out because there are so many people involving that circle i mean the you know the economic circle so they are gradually tidying up but still there are so many pacinko store and that’s the reason why even the gambling is illegal in Japan but still there are so many gambling places in Japan too here small Japanese lesson so that pachinko scheme you know the pachinko store the shops and the customer those triangle scheme called senoski sk so yeah That’s a unique and interesting system of Japan well for me as long as they can enjoy it and they can control theirel it’s okay to have pachinko in Japan though but still poker is illegal they just have the amusement poker so hopefully we have the poker place in the future too i mean legally not illegal one though yeah so that we can play probably after the Osaka we will see so let’s go back to the main street it is the corner of Donkey Hotel building it’s one of the most popular Akihabara spot over here oh wait now they have a new shop over there matsumotoi drugstore always there is a new building in Akihabara too interesting place speaking of the Akihabara town there are so many laid trying to find a customer on the street compared to before so was a Kukuro too and I was wondering why but now I got the answer you know in Japan everything will stretch from April so there are so many new life people in Tokyo you know they are always coming from the countryside working to Tokyo or coming to the university in Tokyo there are so many universities so for them now is the time to find a new customer yeah probably that’s the reason why they are working so hard now it totally makes sense yeah now mystery is solved next stop is Okachimachi station and also the Aoko Street let’s walk in the back street there was a request in the comment section show the vending machine in Japan yep this is how it looks like here interesting they only have the Pepsi but no Coke oh maybe because this vending machine is not the Coca-Cola one they have also the Mountain Dew which is rare in Japan and what is this the fruits mix boost new energy drink i believe you could win the PlayStation 5 well but I believe it’s like winning the lottery though and uh Oh interesting it’s my first time to see it’s only for the vending machine coffee plus strawberry milk really why not i got to try that interesting wait the Pokemon collab really well maybe you can’t get the Pokémon card they are just having collab so why not let’s try this coffee with strawberry and milk all right so let’s do it oh wait what’s going on seems like it’s not working huh that’s okay maybe we can try next time we find it there are so many different kinds of vending machine around here too how about here do we have the same one no maybe we need to find a sentry one though this is also popular vending machine the Coca-Cola one so they have a Coca-Cola also Dr pepper too which is rare in Japan how about that one over there well as so probably not yeah they only have it in the Sentry one I believe oh the Kalpi soda great flavor probably we can find that Sentry vending machine in Bueno area though let’s keep walking oh I think that’s something new kushi Kats Tanaka which is a really popular Kushikat restaurant in Osaka but now we have in Weno Okachimachi too oh how about here we got it yes let’s do it this is a vending machine limited one 120 Japanese yang interesting by the way usually we can use the train IC card on the vending machine but this one not it’s kind of like old one that’s okay and here we go yes let’s do it all right so come back interesting well we have a popular drink Ichigo Miruku by the pack at the convenience which is a really traditional one and it tastes pretty similar doesn’t feel the coffee at all so probably if I will drink this again I will drink that regular ichigo milk drink from the company yeah well but at least it was catchy and interesting though so good job there are many small drinking places isizakaya that means Weno Kachimachi station is almost there no event at the square in front of the Weno Kachimachi station and yeah the blue one Khin Tohok line that’s the entrance of Weno Kachimachi station and in front of you already it’s the Ayoko Street entrance dumping over here that means yes already we are at entrance of Aayoko Street let’s keep walking and walk through Ayoko Street this side of Aayoko street during the pandemic almost no store were opening around this side but now it becomes fully packed until end of the street there are so many saki store drug store and also the clothes store not that long line for the takoyaki restaurant we usually walk on this street but today let’s walk the other side of the street guys it is one street away of Aayoko street there are many restaurant on the other side but here there are more clothes shop those are the kids clothes and those are the kids for adult so if you want to shop clothes this is the side that you want to come there are clothes shops inside the plaza too you see this is the pachinko store and on this side that yellow one over there that’s a place that you can exchange it to the money still many clothes shop continues and here drinking street will starts there are already so many people start drinking enjoying the day that’s nice it’s almost 6:00 p.m a little bit early for dinner time it is the new season for Japanese so so many people having drink and making friend each other in the new places at end of the street it’s already in front of Ueno station kabuki thunder over there interesting recently didn’t see that 3D display playing the 3D stuff but now seems like they are start playing panda 3D stuff again or maybe I just didn’t know station let’s go check out the Weno station a little bit and let’s go to Weno Park seems like construction hasn’t over yet but uh seems like they are start having the small stalls in the square even on the weekday always there are so many travelers in Weno station during the summer time will be more in the morning how about it ramen shop okay it is crowded as always but waiting time is 30 minutes not that bad since there are so many travelers in Ueno station but not that many over here so it’s always crowded over there that’s the entrance of Ueno Park if you are taking the train to Narita airport Casey Sky Diner starting from there and when a park entrance is right next to it last time when we visit there are so many Sakura trees beautifully but uh all of them it’s already gone so it’s a matur yep feels like walking in a different place there are no more sakura trees also those areas sakura trees are sume yoshino so no sakurambo which is the cherry there are many different kinds of sakura trees in Japan and the most popular one is the sume yoshino which don’t get the cherry on that sakura trees but some cherry blossom sakura trees they will get the cherry so if you’re confusing where is the cherry on that tree yeah that’s what it is some sakura tree which is the cherry blossom Some get the cherry but some cherry blossom don’t get it because sakura is a very traditional tree in Japan and many sakura gets a hinuko in Japanese meaning selective breeding so that’s why some sakura gets a beautiful flowers but no cherry some sakura having a flower but not that much as the s yoshino but they will have the cherry yep it’s just a different kind so this is the map of Weno Park we were coming in from here the Iran ramen place was around here so we just came all the way down and we are over here in the park there is a big lake which is the Shinobasik Shinobas Pond also the zoo zoo plus Tokyo National Museum well I have visit Weno Park hundreds of time but never visited this Tokyo National Museum you know i’m like a music person does someone visit this Tokyo National Museum was it good or what’s okay please let me know in the comment if you have it is a nice big park do you remember last time when we visit here during the Sakura season there are so many people so many sims drinking here and enjoying a party over here but today after the Sakura gong it’s super quiet and no one here well the reason why I’m visiting the same places that I’m hoping that you can feel the differences between the seasons and also the moving of the seasons well I will visit the new places in the future video too but I want you to enjoy this beauty of moving season yep that noisy places become such a quiet places this is how Weno Park regularly looks like if you have visited here during Sakura season you would only see that party atmosphere but not the you know regular life of Japan so hopefully I can bring you the regular life of Japan and you feel like you are traveling and actually living here yes that’s one my big theme of the video so hopefully you enjoyed it yes it’s very quiet but this is how regularly a park looks like and the Saigodong Takamari Saigo here he was a great samurai but somehow this sculpture always reminds me the Attack of Titans maybe because this sculpture is big h interesting it’s almost Russia time this Weno station will be busier well now it become 27° however still it’s pretty hot yep the season is moving well it is super hot today but maybe next week will be a little bit cooler but uh if you are visiting Japan definitely you don’t need a heavy jacket probably still you need to bring the light jacket for the nighttime but uh yeah you got to be ready for the hotness too and also speaking of the future season the rainy season in Japan is coming according to the weather forecast focus sorry because of the mosquito i think according to the weather forecast 2025 rainy season in Tokyo will start from mid of June to early of July those season if you are visiting during those seasons there will be many rainy days so watch out and also time for the season yes already the season of mosquito is coming too in Japan there are so many mosquitoes and it will be itchy so you got to be ready for that well if you stay several weeks probably you will get used to it though anyways hope you get to see the Tokyo travel situation through this video there are more videos are coming so if you haven’t please don’t forget to subscribe to the channel so that going to be a good day when I see you coming down

  1. Enjoy your videos. I was in Tokyo last month for the third time, but I still feel that I didn’t see all I wanted. Your updated videos are great because it’s nice to see Japan through your lens and I get to plan future visits. One thing I regret was I didn’t stop by a ramen shop across from Godzilla road in shinjuku. They advertise ramen for less than 700 yen. I think I saw a couple around Kabuchiko. Not sure if those are tourist traps or if they are good. If you try please let me know

  2. Hi Rion,
I know you’re always sharing about the IC cards, which are great.
but i would also suggest you talk about the tokyo metro 24, 48 and 72 hour passes. They’re much cheaper and give you unlimited rides on the tokyo metro (not JR). It will help those who are in tokyo for a couple of days save some money because multiple JR trips can be quite costly. Especially in the summer when walking gets to be too much!

  3. Rion: I'm curious to know if those jackets with the built in fans work during those really humid days. Is that something you could review? 🤔🙏🏽

  4. The Tokyo National Museum houses many of Japan's national treasures. It's a must visit if you are an art lover.

  5. Seems you walked this path not long ago in several past videos and showed the same things ?
    Anyway keep walking 🚶‍♀️

  6. That steak curry looks yummy! 🤤 Will be in Japan in November, as well as December-early January, hope to bump into you then, Rion! Gaoooo~ 😃

  7. I am at the ameyoko street one month ago but don't have enough time to explore. I am interested in the food street.

  8. Nice vid. We were just there in those places 3 weeks ago. Definitely coming back. Please give us more places to visit. Thanks! More power to your channel.

  9. I like it, thanks Rion for featuring "the beauty of the moving season" in Ueno where I have been to twice in the winter season. I love Japan! Fondly, Carol 😊 take care

  10. Today we are flying home from our 1st visit to Japan. It was amazing and Rion's videos were great for previewing and planning the places we wanted to visit.
We went to Tokyo (4 days), then Osaka (3 days), then Kyoto (3 days), and finally back to Tokyo (4 days).
We averaged 10 miles of walking or 24k steps each day in order to see 80% of what we wanted to see.
When they say Tokyo is enormous, they are not kidding. It's insanely large.
I can't emphasize this enough, get a hotel within 5 minutes walk of the rail system. More than 10 minutes away is too far.
Download Google translate because 99% of Japanese people don't speak English other than the numbers for purchases if they are in retail and simple greetings. I spent 5 months trying to learn Japanese before my trip and in that time only learned the basics, so for most learning Nihongo isn't going to work.
Ride the rails early, like 6 a.m. early. Don't ride between 8 and 10 a.m. especially when hauling luggage. There are alot of people trying to get to work and you are in the way. It is fun to try once without luggage though, packed sardines.
The trip was amazing but far too short at 2 weeks. You need at least 3 weeks and if possible stay a month.

  11. Rion – regarding the sakura trees not producing cherries – they are known as "ornamental" cherries and the ones that set cherries are known as " production" cherries ie they produce fruit. For future reference, cheers
