A Brighton man is preparing to take on a remarkable solo cycling challenge across Japan.

Harry Bradford, 25, will be riding over 3,000 kilometres from the northernmost point of Japan to its southern tip to raise funds for a local Brighton charity, The Russell Martin Foundation.

The charity, which relies heavily on community donations, works to support young people through education, sport, and personal development.

Harry has undertaken other cycle challenges, including one to Mount Fuji. (Image: Harry Bradford) Having witnessed the charity’s impactful work first hand during his time as staff there in 2022, Harry felt it was the right time to raise funds for them.

Harry will set off from Cape Soya in the far north of Japan, aiming to reach Cape Sata in the south within 30 days.

In between, he will be camping out or staying in hostels.

However, Harry is no stranger to this kind of challenge having already cycled more than 200km kilometres to Mount Fuji in May which raised funds for a mental health charity.

Explaining his decision to embark on this new and intense challenge, Harry said: “After completing the 200km cycle I honestly thought – you know what I could actually keep going.

“Since coming to Japan I cycle a lot so I do feel prepared.

“It will probably one of the only times in my life to do something like this.

“It is a beautiful rural country and it spoke to me.”

“It’s a huge challenge and a powerful way to raise awareness around children’s mental health.

“The funds raised will directly support our community work, helping young people access life-changing opportunities through education, sport, and mentorship.

“We fully endorse this effort and are grateful for the commitment behind it.”
