Arisa Trew will be out to extend her run of X Games dominance in Osaka with a fourth consecutive women’s skateboarding park title this weekend.
Chloe Covell struck gold for the second successive week as the Australian won the women’s street skateboarding title at X Games Osaka 2025 on Saturday (21).
Covell followed up her lifting the WST Street World Cup in Rome last week by capturing her third X Games gold, riding a first run of 90.00 en route to a comfortable victory over Japan’s Ito Miyu (81.00) and Matsumoto Ibuki (77.00).
Paris 2024 Olympic champion Yoshizawa Coco qualified for the final second but was fourth in the end, managing only a 74.00 on the afternoon at Kyocera Dome Osaka.
The 15-year-old Covell topped the podium in Japan for the second straight year after winning the Chiba contest in 2024. It was her sixth X Games medal overall.
“I’m super excited,” she said. “It’s my first time in Osaka and the first time X Games is in Osaka as well. I had a really fun time. I’m super happy that I could win.”
The gold medal fell in Covell’s lap with a run to spare after Ito could only produce a 80.66 on her second attempt.
Covell said she was pleased with her kick-flip manual on the 36-foot-long plexiglass roof on the Osaka-themed course that led to her title defense ahead of X Games Salt Lake City next weekend.
“I did all the tricks that I knew I could land and I’m really happy that I landed them all,” Covell said. “I went a bit harder for my second run but I missed out on a bit of time at the end. For the finals I did the same first one because I knew it would get me a high score.
“I was feeling pretty confident because I had really good practices. I was just having so much fun skating with all my friends.”
All local eyes were on Yoshizawa to see if she could pull out her first win since Paris last summer but the 15-year-old came up short, as she did in Rome last week when she placed fifth.
“I felt OK but I missed the podium again like Rome,” Yoshizawa said. “That doesn’t sit well with me especially when I have these opportunities.
“I would have liked to done better considering all the expectations since the Olympics.”
