Street Food in Naha Okinawa – What You MUST Eat
today we are here back in Okinawa we’re going to be trying out a whole bunch of street food on Kokusai Dori the main street of Naha and Okinawa welcome back to Okinawa it’s been a while we reviewed street food here in Okinawa long time i think it’s like 8 years ago 8 years ago very long time that’s when we were like really young so today we come back to this main street of Naha Kai that’s why it’s a little bit loud because this is like a very busy street yeah very busy street but there’s tons of street food here lots of change lots of new shops lots of things that we haven’t tried before so we thought we give these new places a try maybe some old favorites by the end of this video you’ll know exactly what you need to eat when you visit Kokusai Dhi anyway you ready to eat let’s go yeah we got lots to eat so we’re starting off at the very beginning of Kokasai Dori this is from a store called Yukishio Sando this is the Kokasai doi branch and we got this this is the sando soft so it has the ice cream along with their signature biscuit and the cool thing about it is that you can try out their salt this store is actually a salt specialty store that’s like a hibiscus salt with matcha salt shiasa salt h taco rice salt kinakaco salt so first I’m going to try it without any salt oh very milky with a slight salty flavor i’m going to try a little bit of the salt here yeah I don’t want to go too weird so I’m going to try the matcha salt pour just a Going to pour a little bit of the matcha salt on okay let’s give it a try matcha salt sounds pretty normal not much matcha taste honestly actually we’ll try the hibiscus salt yeah this is the fun part you can try different types of salt with your ice cream oh it’s salty maybe that’s a bit too much salt but that one’s okay for me then we’ll try the the cookie here their signature cookie m there’s like cream of a salted cream in between a langa cookie i put the sequa salt this is number one popular salt they say this become red cheese flavor interesting cheesecake cheesecake cheesecake no big cheesecake yeah okay so that is the recommended salt next we came to very unique shop this shop is named Pop Place they have a variety of things the one thing which caught my attention is this kebab they have six type of pop kebab not regular kebab pop kebab and this one is tacos looks like tacos but it’s kebab chicken meat and taco sauce i think also I think like some kind of like um I don’t know kebab sauce and then there’s like shredded cabbage as well this sauce taco sauce with sauce i think I like this combination and meat is tender m this is definitely not your usual kebab but it is darn good the spices and the flavors really go well together it does remind me of like a tacos but like a Okinawan version of a taco but it’s really good and this is made with chicken pieces lots of chicken in here and I love the freshness of the shredded cabbage as well satoshi says he’s interested in the drinkable cheesecake but for me I think the smoothies look great and also they have like uji matcha drinks i really want to try it this morning uh I had a matcha latte it was terrible different place next time I think I might come here the next shop is called New Q and we’ve been here before with my mother and I really love what they offer they offer pineapple treats made with local pineapple 100% we got the Otameisto this was 1,000 yen and that includes a pineapple juice of the day but this is their famous pineapple tart is made right here in house and it is some kind of like pineapple jelly on the inside here we go there we go i carefully opened it yeah so that’s the pineapple jelly this is some kind of cream there’s macadamia nuts and it’s nestled inside these uh biscuits m it’s buttery the texture of the biscuit is so perfect it’s sort of like shortcake but a little moisture that pineapple jelly is the key to this and the cream adds a little bit of creaminess the macadmia a little bit of crunch that’s delicious this is a pineapple juice today’s pineapple juice is ta pine from Ishigaki Island m oh so sweet from the the image of pineapple it is a tartness of course it has a tartness but sweeter than the tangness very nice so next we came to Ichiba Hondor i honor is a shopping street from Kai toi we visited they sell musubi and it’s a play on word pork musubi and shorten musuri they have variety of spami we bought two types of lemon one is this one it’s pretty unique this is pineapple and spam on top of rice i think this combination is good we put pineapple inside the sweet sour pork so this is like that m the sweet and sour flavor of a pineapple and it matches with this pork ugami really nicely also what caught on our attention is this spam stick this is pretty it’s deep fried spam around the spam it’s I think it’s the panco bread crumbs oh m the crispy sface m I like this sour face sakuto it’s simple but it’s fun to eat m Oh oh wow the outside is like super super super good though so I got the Goya spam goya is bitter melon because you know Goya is the iconic vegetable of Okinawa it was so hard choosing so many varieties and by the way they just opened m this one is a pleasant surprise because it’s spam grilled spam on top of rice with ni but it’s not just raw or boiled bitter melon it’s actually seasoned in vinegar so it’s like pickled bitter melon so it kind of adds like a nice acidity making this super refreshing that’s delicious so we still have lots to eat we are walking along Lugu Dhi this is a little street um off of Kokai Dhi again many of the shops are just off Kokai and this is a pretty new place i’ve never been here but I really want to try it out [Music] [Music] so we put in our order after waiting for about 5 minutes we got our food we are here at a shop called Mia and they are famous for these shisa pan or shisa bread and they are different from tayyaki kind of looks like tayyaki but the outside uh the surface is much firmer and crispier I think but look at that they are adorable look at that and I got the one with beni mo or the local purple sweet potato and Satoshi got his with custard look at that so cute m m oh that’s good the outside is squishy and chewy of course you have the crispy surface and the inside is filled with this beautiful purple sweet yam the color is beautiful it’s so good i love the Okinawan purple and so warm so mine is custard and I like this shape so cute and they have two types of face the one is a uh mine is a and one is just like the real shisa yeah they are shisa the shisa is everywhere in Okinawa you can see on top of the roof m why this one is called shisa p not not yaki like tayyaki yeah outside crispy and it’s squishy bread custard taste it’s nicely sweetened m good egg taste i like this one it’s very good snack we walk through to the end of Kosai we found a very interesting thing it’s named Tahoe what is taho we did not know that the shop name is Sansan Okino and I asked the shop owners it’s a dessert made with soy milk it’s like a pudding and they have a variety of taho and we chose kro kinako kro is okinavan black sugar and kinako is a soybean powder and these are tapioca balls oh oh my it’s well blended with the black sugar syrup but tekkusha is very smooth and the sweetness of this chromisu and it’s really good and it combined with kinako powder so nicely new discovery for me remember sansam m oh I can really taste the soy milk i love soy milk so I love it they had a variety of flavors like matcha for example so I think if you got matcha it would maybe have a stronger matcha taste but this one I feel like the flavors of the the kinako and the kuromitsu black sugar really compliments the soy milk pudding m so refreshing delicious you We’re like so focused on the Tahoe but they also have sata and four different flavors matcha sata and I’ve never heard of that before they have asai bowl in a cup they even have taco rice smoothies and Okinawan zenzai shaped ice we definitely got to come back next time so we’re going to finish off with a drink uh we discovered this place about a week ago and we tried a sample it was so good we promised to come back and here we are at Samin tea stand sin tea is jasmine tea and it is the drink of choice for people here in Okinawa and it’s so good you guys know I love milk tea this is a different version of milk tea it’s amazing i ordered coto samp milk tea this one is sweetness level zero but this contains black sugar so it has a sweetness little bit sweetness and by the way guys the sound is rain it has started to rain mixture of sincha jasmine tea and the milk blend the ratio is perfect wow and you can enjoy the samp so nicely so I got the craft sampi soda and this is made with jasmine um there’s a sparkling water so it’s a little bit different wow i was not expecting that first of all the sweetness level i got the normal sweetness level so it’s perfect for me but it tastes almost like honey but also refreshing at the same time maybe that’s cuz of the soda and there were some spices in here what is this what kind of spice is this is it anis is it anis i don’t know but it is giving this tea a really unique wonderful flavor and aroma sorry I’m going to take a sip of your milk tea cuz you guys know I like milk tea as well oh wow this for some reason tastes like a milkshake to me that’s good but you know what this one This one I This is my favorite oh my gosh and so all that it’s so sweet of this thank you yeah sweet you know everybody in Okinaw is so nice you know i feel like we’re making a lot of friends here oh my so we were originally planning to do like 10 to 12 different street food on this video because there’s so many but I am stuffed i cannot eat another bite and it started to rain again yeah we started our Okinawa trip with rain i hope you guys saw that video and we’re ending it with rain but you know what it’s nice and cool when it rains and I like it i like Okinawa anytime it’s cooler yeah so uh what were your standouts today we had a lot of like new stuff actually everything we tried today was new i think today was new yeah wow right i know like everything yeah what was like some of your favorite for me the milk tea the last thing really the jasmine milk tea yes i I got to say my favorite was also my craft jasmine tea soda that was I I wish I I I had that i could have that in Tokyo it was so good i also love the tahoe tahoe yeah yeah that soy milk dessert i never had that and that was super good shisa was really good the shisa bread was good uh especially the uh red sweet potato and the pineapple tart thing yeah that actually that we tried before yeah and we went back there because I loved it so much four favorites The Shisa Pan is so cute! I'll have one with custard, please 🙂
Pineapple is my favorite. I'd love to try the pineapple treat you guys ate.
Thank you TabiEats ❤😊
cannot wait to try all those salts with the softcream
You both make eating snacks so fun!!!
Good morning 🌅 from HONG KONG 🇭🇰 SAR. Custard snacks made in Japan 🇯🇵 are one of the best among many other Japanese sweet snacks. I also like the Japanese TAI YAKI fish-shaped red bean 🫘 paste snack when it is nice and warm.
Really nice
