From Tokyo to Chiba: A Journey to My Family’s Resting Place
[Music] hello I’m No today is the middle day of the Golden Week the Golden Week is a collection of the four national holidays within seven days in combination with wellplaced weekends the Golden Week becomes one of Japan’s three busiest holiday seasons today I’ll show you how to get from a quiet station in the city center to a cemetery in the suburbs during Golden Week stay tuned till the end okay let’s go [Music] i’m on the platform of the Takadan Baba station on the Tokyo Metro line takadunoba station is not very big but is the 12th bus station in the world what a surprise it’s almost empty as today is a national holiday the Tokyo Metro to line is a rapid transit line in Tokyo and production it’s owned and operated by Tokyo Metro its name translates to East West Line the line runs between Nakano in Nakanoku Tokyo and Nishiashi inabashi chiba prefecture tokyo metro total line is 30.8 kilometer long making is the third largest underground in Japan after the toy oil line and the Yokohama municipal subway blue line trains run above ground for 14 kilometers between Minami and Mishnabas station it’s strange to see a train running on the ground even though it’s a subway line we are now at the station nearest the cemetery before going to the cemetery we are going to a flower shop to buy a bouquet of flowers oh no it’s closed today [Music] [Music] this station is in a residential area and there are not many shops and restaurants i’ve been here a few times and it’s always a challenge to kill time until the bus arrives [Music] the shuttle bus has come let’s go how you The area is restricted by law from being urbanized so it will not be possible to turn it into a residential or commercial area it took less than 20 minutes by microbus from Toyo Katada stations at last my husband and I arrived at the cemetery [Music] okay [Music] in Japan bribes often exist for each family rather than for an individual the cemetery accepts Buddhist as well as other religions such as Christians [Music] this is the grave of my in-laws flowers are placed here it looks like someone has visited recently this is my first visit here since my father-in-law died originally my husband’s grandparents are buried here but my father-in-law passed away last year and he too is now like to rest here when I come to visit the cemetery we offer incense along with flowers it’s always difficult to li the incense because it’s so windy when I was little the incest smoke always bothered me why is the smoke coming this way i asked my mother and she always smile to say the smoke goes towards the cutest girl in the world [Music] now let’s go and visit the grave of my husband’s aunt [Music] she passed away several years ago i’ve never met her but she seems to have been a good bond to my husband [Music] some gravestones have names written in red letters these are placed there in advance by people who purchased the gravestone during their lifetime this is duck characters that I’ve seen somewhere before that said a duck dressed as a sailor isn’t that unique [Music] come [Music] [Music] on come on [Music] [Music] my husband is going to visit his Mother I have something else to do so I’m going to Tokyo earlier [Music] today I took you all to a typical Japanese cemetery what did you think please tell me how it differs from cemeteries in your country in the comment section [Music] that is all for today i usually explore places in Japan that tourists often miss with short stories from local history and culture if that sounds fun subscribe and join me next time m [Music]
Join me on a peaceful journey from Takadanobaba in Tokyo to a quiet cemetery in Chiba, Japan — where my family rests.
This all-English video offers a reflective look at Japanese traditions, ancestral respect, and the hidden calm of Tokyo’s outer suburbs.
We’ll walk through everyday streets, ride local trains, and share a moment of silence at the grave.
No music. No narration. Just footsteps, ambient sounds, and the gentle passage of time.
🇯🇵 Whether you’re curious about Japanese culture, love Tokyo walks, or simply need a moment of calm — welcome.

Very interesting. Thank you.
This video is very personal and interesting. Thank you for taking us with you.
It's the first time I've seen a Japanese cemetery. Very tidy, well-kept and with some nice things too.
Here they are less tidy and a little sadder. Then it depends on which one you visit.
Beyond the sadness, I have the impression that we deal with mourning and loss in the same way. At least as far as cemeteries are concerned.
Thanks again! 🙂
Thank you for this quiet, contemplative video
