Tokyo Places to Eat You Can’t Miss | Ramen, Sake Tasting & Wagyu Beef

Tokyo knows how to do food, and today was the perfect introduction We kicked things off with citrusy ramen in Shinjuku that was light, flavorful, and hit just right From there, we hit up the sake tasting, learning the nuances of Japan’s iconic drink then finish off the night with an 80 minutes all-you-can-eat Wagyu experience grilled to perfection In this episode, we’re not just eating, we’re experiencing Tokyo one dish at a time If you love food and travel, don’t forget to like, subscribe, and follow along Ramen time, let’s go Right next to our hotel in Shinjuku is the Sumitomo building, a modern tower with a surprisingly calm vibe inside Once inside, we are instantly immersed in an open atrium, quiet still in a nice break from the usual Shinjuku energy We then took the escalator down into a whole underground food zone That’s where we found Afuri They are best known for their yuzu ramen, light citrusy, and super flavorful You order through a digital kiosk, then grab a seat at the counter, diner-style – simple, cozy, and designed for one thing: a perfect bowl of ramen We each order different bowls Neek ordered the spicy yuzu ramen. It’s got this bold, chili-forward heat, but the yuzu citrus cut right through for a super clean finish I went with their signature Yuzu salt ramen A light, salty broth with the same citrus kick next level, tastey I like these spoons. The noodles? No, the spoons. Mmmmmm We should buy some of these for our apartment. Yeah? I’m sure we can go into, like a, you know, kitchenware or a houseware store They also give you a really good portion size of noodles. Uh, so good I’m so happy we got this. Yeah. This is much needed fuel. This is, like, the most substantial food we’ve had since we got here. Mm hmm. Big ol’ bites So highball is, um, whiskey? And then the sours is what? Umm – Vodka? I think it’s Vodka Afuri has locations all over the city, so if you’re visiting, you should definitely hit up this spot On our way out, we noticed a public piano tucked in a quiet corner A man was mid-performance while a small line formed patiently behind him Nearby, chairs and tables invited anyone to sit, listen, and enjoy a little unexpected music All right, we are en route to the sake tasting in Shinjuku Okay, so we are the only Sake tasters here Okay, so the first one – is from Fukushima 66% rice polish so Rice polishing ratio. It’s basically the more you polish the rice, the more premium it kinda becomes. But in general, it is considered more premium and more expensive. Okay
Are these for kind of a palate cleanser in between? At least what you have in the guidebook Like the first one goes well with cheese – with Miso Cheese So this one goes well with the cheese. Perfect And we got it looks like pickled vegetables. And then this right here is, what do we got? That’s chicken Gizzard. Do you know what Gizzard is? Oh, yeah, chicken gizzard. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then this one is… It’s a fish fin. Interesting.
Fish fin, okay. All right cheers, baby Cheers. Oh, that’s real good. Miso cheese? Mmm. What kind of cheese is this? Is this caramel? I think it’s because of miso. Oh, miso. It’s really good. Okay, so what are we drinking? That’s from Kyoto. Okay. Which is quite different from the first one though is considered more premium Yeah the thing is with sake, it’s like you never know what you’re going drink because unlike wine there’s no information about sweetness or dryness. So does this go well with the pickles? With fish fin Fish fin. Okay. That’s right here.
Okay. Okay. Have you ever had fish fin before? Not uh In my case, it’s a bit salty though, I’m going to try this. Japanese people like mayonnaise. Yeah. They’ve been Westernized. Their mayo’s pretty good, though. This is good. That’s really good. Yeah. It almost has a texture of like an artichoke Like dried artichoke? Yeah. Obviously, with the mayo, for the artichoke. I know what that is. I never tried though I like that one a lot. I like the first one better. The second one. I like the second one, yeah. I think this one is the most popular one, most popular, okay? I feel like I’ve seen the label before. This one from Yamagata. Just super close to tokyo Yamagata. That’s where the fujian That’s where fuji yamama is. Okay. And what is this pair with on here? Uh Chicken. Gizzard?. Ooh, I like this one. It’ sweet. Oh, a little bit sweeter. I like that. All right, give this Gizzard the try. Yamagata this famous its wine. There’s like a lot of It’s for grapes, grape plantations. Huh. I I didn’t know that.. What do you think? Of course. Well, it’s a deep fried gizzard, yes. Not a fan too. How does it taste? I’m not really a fan of gizzard, but. Don’t.’t eat it. Because you say it pairs, like, I have to try it. Like, it’s it’s here. It’s not my opinion It’s It’s an interesting texture, even though it is fried Yeah, I like this one a lot. I think I like this one is best. This is my favorite so far. As we keep going down, I’m like, I like that one the best. I like that one the best. I like that one the best. Yeah, good flavor right there And this one, we’re going to try it with ice with 1 cube. Okay, to make it even cooler. Perfect. Oh, I like that. I like that That’s’s nice. I like it. That’s nice. I like this This is nice. I like the back end. Yeah. And I like it chilled. I like I like sake really, really cold. In the States, they like to heat it up because it’s not the best quality. Well, when you go sake bombing. Yeah. It’s like, it’s almost like drinking alcohol, rubbing alcohol. Do people do a lot of sake bombs here? Sake what? Bombing Sake bomb We do it with Jagermeister, here Ah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, back home, okay. But I’ve never seen the people doing it here. Yeah. It’s not a thing here It’s like an American thing. No, it’s just like I love this. I feel like I would love frozen. We drink Vodka like this? you drink Vodka like this? It is easy drink. Yeah. Oh. I think with alcohol, the colder, the better for food. So this one’s frozen. Yeah. They suggest to just keep it in the freezer in a particular one. We just put it in the trunk’s car trunk I actually might like this one. The best now. Really? Yeah. I think I don’t know if it’s a textural thing to go along with the flavor, because like the ice does add a nice little unusual crunch Yeah, this is my favorite. This is my favorite. It’s the name. It’s like, Ozi Yukidanama. It means the snowman I like it with the pickled veggies. I’m going to have some of yours The cheese. I’m obsessed with the cheese. You want my gizzards? I tried one. That was your first time trying gizzard? Yes. His first time. the next one is with the soup. With the soup. Okay, cool. So you’re going to pour it in a soup. I’ll pour it first so we can taste the sake first. Okay. And then we add soup to go with it So this is a soup right here. Yeah you want to try it without it? Sure, yeah. It’s already warm I mean, it’s still good. Yeah? Yeah. Interesting. The soup it’s going to be so like. Wow. It’s basically called dashi, which is a soup base for miso for. other fact. So just a seaweed with fish flakes. Yeah.
Oh, nice. This is really good. I like it. It’s. Oh, yeah, I can definitely see that. You definitely get the flavor of the fish flake in there. little fishy, but it’s not like fish sauce. Maybe I’m I’ll do this for hangovers. Like, I’ll just have you know, I just put soup and alcohol and just sip on it. That’s good. This is This is great for the winter. Basically, this is also sake. Okay. We just added some kind of flower to make it look like this And so Try it first without lemon juice. add then you add lemon juice a little bit. It’s going to turn pink. That’s the idea. It’s gonna turn pink. Okay, we finding. They pour it a little bit on ice cream. You can try that. If you like it, just pour it more. If you don’t like it just. So no alcohol. No alcohol All right, so we just finished up our sake Tasting, we are going over to Shibuya area for our dinner at this place that has all-you-can-eat Kobe steak for 100 minutes – so we’re going to take the train over there right now from Shinjuku Yo, this is insane right now. We’re literally trying to find the Entrance and we just went into the underground labyrinth of Shinjuku Station. Like, there’s shopping, and then there’s so many more different areas to go to. Like, I don’t even, you don’t even know how to get to the train right now. It’s madness All right, so we just got in, we got in actually a little bit early our reservation is for nine, but it is like 7 o’clock right now We have 100 minutes to eat all-you-can-eat, Wagyu beef and unlimited alcohol, at least for me. So this is Nukuya Yakocho, an all-you-can-eat wagyu experience here in Shibuya Here, you choose your price tier based on the cuts you want, the higher the tier, the more premium the wagu At the front, there’s a tier display of meats and your tier gives you access to specific levels Once you’re seated, it’s all about the grill. You cook each piece yourself Korean barbecue style – hot fresh, and exactly how you like it a hands-on dining experience that lives up to the hype it’s good so far. I just – We just started, so just cooking the steaks just ordered a bunch of sides. What’d you get? What’s this? That’s a It Looks like Udon noodle. This is a sorted kimchi, and this is I don’t know what this is called Some sort of soup. And then I got myself a beer. Like, kind of like a Korean kimchi broth udon noodle soup. Ooh, that sounds really good. It’s just like kimchi flavored. So what do we have here? It’s cold noodles. Cold noodles. Mm hmm. And what kind of broth? I have no idea. The description’s just cold noodles. Very ambiguous You got your noodles, you got your steak, you got all these sides, and all the sides, by the way They’re included in the price Of this meal. Wow, that was really good.
