More than an onigiri, less than a bento

Japan’s beloved onigiri just got a next-gen upgrade — meet the
“Oniben” (おに弁), the hybrid where tradition meets innovation. Spotted
exclusively at Bellmart Kiosks in Hamamatsu and Kakegawa stations in
Shizuoka Prefecture, this reinvented rice ball is billed as “more than
an onigiri, less than a bento.”
Each Oniben features a compact base of tightly packed rice, layered
and filled like a mini bento — think Umani (a medley of simmered
veggies), juicy Unagi (eel), Ebi Chili (spicy prawn), or the regional
Shirasu & Mikkabi Gyu (young sardines & Shizuoka beef). They look like
little trays but are fully edible, making them perfect for travel
snacking without compromising on flavor or variety.
At just 250–350 yen, they offer incredible value, packing bold
ingredients and home-cooked comfort into a handheld form. And yes —
there’s even a Katsu Curry version if you’re feeling extra indulgent.
📍Only at select Shizuoka stations
