$830 Apartment of a 24 Year Old Office Worker in Tokyo

have you ever wondered what kind of home a typical young professional lives in in Tokyo This is my friend Ria and she works a corporate office job and lives in Tokyo In this video we’re touring her one-bedroom apartment and trying some of the foods that she usually grabs for lunch So what does everyday life in Japan really look like for the locals Let’s find out Guys it’s me Jimmy It is officially finally happening I’ve been invited to a girl’s apartment and that girl just happens to be Ria Hello So this is our apartment in Tokyo If I lived here how much would I be paying Which in Japan is actually quite expensive right I think so Yes I walked through the lobby of the apartment the elevator I wouldn’t go as far as saying luxurious but it is a very new very nice apartment Yeah I’m so lucky You are very lucky I just got inside the apartment From here why don’t you introduce your apartment So on my left side and my right side I see there’s like a little door I will show you Because Tokyo’s real estate is so expensive apartments in Tokyo tend to be extremely compact and many of them utilize every small corners to maximize the storage space You have a nice shoe collection Is this your car key No Bicycle Bicycle Okay Okay Um can I be allowed to walk inside Yeah of course Thank you Okay My kitchen Immediately what I see is uh I want this to prevent the lack of nutrition So here she wrote down names of foods that contain certain nutrients which I thought was very interesting Floating vitamin This is minaru In Japan how do you get your drinking water Do you drink like one of those bottle water or is that what you use like one of those filters Filters long Brea Oh Japan uses Breida filters too You think Japanese uh tap water is clean M So can I just drink it out of the tab Yeah sure But better if I use the filters I think so I believe you quite like cooking right I really like cooking This is my Show me show you olive oil like no Okay And these are all your This is really terrible No this is not terrible This is beautiful What are you talking about I think these are well organized in my standards but based on my experience in Japan people tend to be very well organized So I guess this doesn’t quite cut it for her Guess what You wrap dead people with it Just kidding No way I’ve seen that in movies So this is for monkey like sushi rolls So so Korea has that too You can make a Korean kimpab with it You told me before you really like cooking right And you’re apparently quite good at it right Wow Wow Not bad This is my lunchbox It looks super healthy Is this what you pack to like work Yeah Do you bring this to work or do you eat this at home Work Oh okay Oh Korean Oh wow Yeah that’s the Korean style kimp pop right Yeah I made with my friend Oh nice I’m kind of generalizing here but based on my experience a lot of Japanese women tend to take pride in being good at cooking and being well organized There’s even a popular term for it called jooshyoku which translates to female power It’s not really a clearly defined term but it generally stands for a woman’s ability to look presentable to act with elegance and to be good at cooking and housework I know it’s 2025 guys but I didn’t come up with this okay Don’t get mad Now let’s take a look at her fridge That is big size You know a lot of apartments in Korea and Japan they have like the mini size like a half size of Yeah Yeah Yeah You don’t have fridge stickers but my friends made for me for your birthday Yes Oh last last year I wish I had friends that do that Nice I want to say it’s pretty well organized actually You have a lot of sauces This like this is full of sauces You had like a cabinet full of sauces there too Yeah that’s right I need them You need them Oh what are those Many proteins Oh those are just protein powders So you want to become a bodybuilder Just for my health I have no place to store this Oh so just in my fridge Oh I see I see And also many pasta here You also don’t need to keep them in the fridge But I guess this is part of your storage space right Oh what are we seeing on this side here It’s a bathroom Yeah Am I allowed to enter I will hold my breath Just kidding So most toilets in Japanese homes even the ones that are quite aged they often have toilets with built-in bedet system which cleanses your rear end for you It looks like one of those science fiction toilets When you go to other countries often times they don’t have the Vidday Oh but I don’t use Vidday a lot You don’t Yeah Wait wait wait I don’t want to know I don’t want to know They don’t want to know either Why wouldn’t you use them I lived in Germany and Italy and China and they don’t use them So it’s my hobby I don’t know if we need to know that much detail but Okay Okay I’m so sorry Here Nice skin care stuff Yes And makeup tools Okay I see a lot of Korean brands Yeah I see you have a nice perfume collection right Yeah So I realized that in Japan a lot of women are into skin care Like at least every single one that I know It’s almost as if people like seeing beautiful youthful women every day What do you think about a guy that’s very into skin care and beauty stuff I hope so You hope the guy is interested Yeah but I think the skin care is really important I think it’s quite important especially at least using sunscreen is pretty important Okay A guy gets Botox Uh too much Too much Okay I haven’t got Botox yet My worry would be you know like when you get Botox like when they smile or when they like make facial expressions it starts to look a little unnatural Oh I don’t want to be that guy you know I’d rather have more wrinkles and be natural and have big muscles too And this is your bathroom Can I walk inside Yeah A bathtub The bathtub isn’t full size Can I sit in it I’m about uh 5’11 or 180 cm tall Okay Wo I would say it’s bigger than like a budget hotel bathtub right I’ve been told that in Japan people take a bath every day right Yes Instead of taking just a shower That’s right Isn’t that a lot of water Oh I don’t care about that You don’t care about that There’s people without drinking water Next we’re done with the bathroom and we’re going to go into the living room Living room or the bedroom Wow How do you feel I I feel nervous nervous Why Well once again since I am entering your living room bedroom I did not forget to bring you a gift from Korea Thank you so much This is my favorite snacks in Korea Yeah you uh for some reason really like this snack Why do you like this snack Why Blackjango really like this Oh black Jizu likes it Yeah Yeah If Jizu likes it then I should love it too All right take us through your room Let me introduce my dangerous spot in here You have a dangerous spot in your room Yeah For example Oh really It reminds me of like the furnitureures that you picked up on the road Did you buy it new And I assembled by myself Yeah Putting a furniture together is like a dangerous work You need like a boyfriend for that I I had no boyfriend Oh man Oh this is microwave and oven from Sharp a Japanese company Oh Sharp rice cooker So cool You have a lot of dishes for somebody who lives alone You could have a party here too if you want to Also my friend often comes here to eat my food And uh this is It’s supposed to be a drawer right Yeah Oh man it’s okay I’m really concerned about earthquake Oh yeah with earthquake This would like all fall apart Wait where’s the washer I forgot about that Oh Oh this is also sharp Oh you really love sharp And this is a washer and a dryer too right Yeah I noticed that in Japan a lot of them use like twoin one washers M That’s right And there is your bed I think for you like this is already large enough right Yeah Nice Below the mattress Where’d you buy the mattress On the internet Oh on the internet Yeah Do you typically work here Like at home So out of maybe 5 days How often do you work at home One or two One or two days work from home Well I probably should have said earlier but she works as an obvious worker for a Japanese corporation That’s right A corporation that is kind of like Sharp I guess right It is not Sharp It’s kind of like Sharp And this apartment is a dorm for her company Yeah And you still have to pay though right Yes How much do you have to pay 9,000 yen 9,000 yen Yeah Oh my god The benefit is actually really good Yeah It’s like you’re living here for free almost M Okay We’re going to take a look at the balcony now Do you do anything here No You could do like a really fun barbecue party here right Oh if you had like a Korean barbecue grill No Thank you I don’t want to show too much Just for your privacy Mhm You sometimes or often get food from convenience stores right Yeah And today you’re going to introduce some of the foods that you like from the convenience stores Yes Something that you get for your lunch at work right Or at home too No at the office Oh just in the office So you never eat convenience store food at home Yeah You always cook Mhm Wow The dedication Well well that is very thoughtful of you to prepare two bags full of convenience store food She’s setting up the table here You can sit on the couch So these are all the convenience store foods that you like right Yeah What should we start with This is tortilla Tortilla taco meat I think Mexicans are very upset that they call this Mexican food here but Yeah Okay Japanese Mexican style Japanese Mexican style I really like your mom Can I Yes Thank you Oh it’s got a lot of like melted cheese too It’s like mostly tortilla and dust of meat I like the smart design though like you can peel them off layer by layer And this is their vegetable pork soup Something that I personally wouldn’t get from a convenience store Kind of tastes like shaboo shaboo Yeah it’s kind of like shaboo shaboo without a lot of meat What else do you have for us How often Twice a day Twice a day Looks like some kind of a granola bar right Has a lot of nuts So this has like this cracker with a lot of nuts in it and cream Is it good H Yeah I like it Tastes very buttery and sweet Yeah I’m not sure about the healthy part It’s like the kind of cookie dessert that you get from like a nice coffee shop Yes You recognize that I am on a diet So you got me black coffee That’s kind of a weird question What can I see Would you like a little concerned about bringing a guy over Even if it’s just for content though Oh I don’t think that Of course Of course So this is called dorayaki A popular character durong is actually named after dorayaki I believe that’s right because dayong likes dayyaki When I read damong as a kid we don’t have dayyaki in Korea So I always wondered what daryayaki tastes like and I only recently got to try it Let me snap it open So doryaki has red bean paste and cream and they’re in this castella like sweet bread And this is like one of the visitor favorite in Japan Yeah For some reason a lot of foreigners love Japanese egg sandwich All convenience stores have it I can feel the bread is very soft It’s not dry Also the egg salad part is very creamy Wow Wow It’s actually good Is it Yeah It’s actually really good Great ratio of egg mayo and the bread They work together really well I like the chunks of egg in there like the egg white And it has a really fresh feel to it like they made it today So I guess uh in Japanese convenience stores these things are made in a nearby factory on the same day and then they deliver it to the convenience store That’s very impressive I heard that if you work in a convenience store sometimes they’d have like leftover food right That they don’t sell The rule is you have to throw them away but sometimes as a worker you know they’re like still good So like at the end of the day or at the end of the shift you like act like you’re throwing it into the trash and you keep them and bring them home And these are both onigiri which are rice balls This looks premium but it’s still like 260 yen That’s just rice with plum shiso greens It’s mostly like plant-based right Oh wow That looks like an anime oniiri It’s supposed to be salmon oniri Oh my god this onigiri looks nice It looks like it’s wearing a suit Yes it does have a slice of salmon This This is my favorite but also yours favorite Yeah Uh sometimes when I travel in Japan I work out right Because I have to work out every day and I need protein So it’s like an extremely healthy option if you want to have some protein in from convenience stores I guess in Asian food in general I feel like it is difficult to get a large portion of protein So I I really appreciate the fact that they have this protein bar Usually I just open it like this and I eat it like this Me too Yeah It’s a smoked chicken breast with black pepper I wouldn’t say it’s like the most delicious thing ever but it’s been my go-to post-workout meal Actual chicken breast Do you do any kind of like physical activities How often Every day Really You go to a class I remember it used to be that a lot of Japanese girls actually didn’t like guys that are like too muscular No way No you’re just a different generation You don’t know when I was like maybe a teenager like 10 years ago Okay 10 years ago like if I talk to a Japanese girl hey like do you like muscular guys They’d be like no I I want somebody who’s like just a slender build Most girls were like that before I see It’s just like times have changed I like muscular men Mhm I think most people do actually Not necessarily because of the it just means that the person is kind of hardworking So so so to your point I do feel like if the guy is just muscular and doesn’t do anything else then that’s kind of unattractive That’s right And this is Japanese mixed nuts I think coated means caramel Oh these are caramel coated That looks really nice Oh wow It’s like nuts but like the movie theater caramel popcorn flavor It’s actually really good Wow That was like a great overview of what you can potentially have as a corporate worker for lunch Thank you so much for the introduction and I really enjoyed your um choice of food If I had to pick my favorite one out of them all I don’t want to be like the typical foreigner but I really love the egg sandwich Oh the single bite of egg sandwich I was like “Wow this is good.” So I want to say I like your apartment I like your setup I like how everything is like very minimalistic Would you consider yourself a minimalist Yeah Yeah I think you are cuz you don’t like to like have too many things You don’t seem to be like buying a lot of things either except for maybe the sauces So I guess I prefer living in an apartment too I just don’t like neighbors Well well thank you so much for your house tour It was a great pleasure to visit your apartment and uh learn more about Japanese culture and how people live Yeah And thank you guys for watching the video and go watch my other videos guys Thank you so much Oh oops Sorry for destroying your place

In this video, I’m visiting a one-bedroom apartment in Tokyo — home to my friend Rie, who works as a corporate office employee in the city.

Tokyo is one of the most expensive places to live in Asia, and due to high real estate costs, apartments here tend to be quite compact. But what they lack in space, they often make up for with clever and creative design solutions.

  1. She is so wholesome, it's refreshing to hear there are still girls like this out there. Cute, genuine, fun.

  2. Her cooking looks so good! If she ever wants to make some cooking videos I'd be so glad 🥰

  3. It's 2025 so women might be offended by the idea they should look presentable and take care of themselves, haha, spot on

  4. That £45.92 a month in English money… it's almost silly they ask for that it's such a small amount 😂
