Everyone Says Vienna Is Perfect – So I Went to See for Myself

In this video Welcome to Vienna, a city where history, elegant streets, and timeless beauty come together in perfect harmony. Grab your (virtual) walking shoes and let’s dive into this unforgettable tour together! We begin our walk right here in Stephansplatz, in front of the magnificent St. Stephen’s Cathedral — the true heart of Vienna! This Gothic masterpiece has been the heart of Vienna for over 700 years. Can you imagine? It’s seen emperors crowned, music legends walk by, and countless stories unfold beneath its soaring spires. Did you know that the south tower, called the Steffl, stands nearly 137 meters tall? It took over 65 years to build, and from the top, on a clear day, you can see all the way to the Alps! As we stroll slowly through Stephansplatz, you can feel the pulse of Vienna all around us This square is more than just a meeting point — it’s where the old city’s history and the vibrant modern life blend seamlessly. Look at those desserts in the window — they look so good, right? It’s hard to walk away… but hey, Vienna’s waiting. We’ll treat ourselves later! Centuries ago, merchants and travelers gathered here, and today, locals and visitors alike come to soak up the unique atmosphere. Take a moment to really look at the front façade — it’s not just grand, it’s a stone tapestry of Gothic imagination. You’ll spot layers of intricate carvings: saints, mythical creatures, twisted vines, and floral patterns, all hand-chiseled centuries ago Then there are the Roman Towers on either side — squat, sturdy, and packed with history Every corner tells a story, and in Vienna, even a simple stroll can feel like walking through a living museum. And speaking of that… just look around! See those locals dressed in vintage Viennese costumes? It’s like we’ve stepped back in time! Many of them work with classical concert halls and opera houses, inviting people to evening performances of Mozart and Strauss Their outfits — inspired by 18th and 19th century fashion — aren’t just for show They’re a tribute to Vienna’s golden age of music and culture. It’s a charming tradition that keeps the spirit of old Vienna alive right here on the streets. Have you ever been to a classical concert? Would you try one while visiting the city? Just take a look around — this square is like an open-air gallery of Viennese architecture. You’ll notice how styles blend here. Graceful Baroque facades with their soft curves and stucco ornaments sit next to bold modern lines, reflecting the city’s spirit of reinvention. If you enjoy the video, please give it a thumbs up! It means a lot to me, thank you so much!🙏 Vienna has never been stuck in one era — it layers its history, one building at a time. Many of these façades were rebuilt or restored after World War II, but always with great care to preserve that old Viennese soul. Just look at the elegant windows, the decorative balconies, the subtle details that tell you: this city takes pride in its beauty. And then there’s the contrast — glass and steel next to stone and legend. It might seem surprising at first, but here in Vienna, it just works. The Column of Pest, also known as the Pestsäule, on the Graben—just steps from the cathedral It’s a Baroque masterpiece with subtle gilding that catches the sunlight in places, making it shimmer like a beacon of hope. This monument was built in 1693–94 as a thanksgiving for the end of the Great Plague of 1679—when Vienna lost tens of thousands of souls Look up: angels and Emperor Leopold I kneel on a cloud-like pyramid, crowned by the gilded Holy Trinity—a symbol of salvation. The column’s three tiers, nine angels, and triangular base symbolize the bond between humans, angels, and God. Nearby, two smaller fountains show Saint Joseph and Saint Leopold, added to bless both faith and the city’s water. This is the Leopoldsbrunnen — a beautiful historic fountain named after Saint Leopold, the patron saint of Vienna. Its elegant Baroque design, with sculpted figures and flowing water, has been a refreshing landmark for locals and visitors alike since the 17th century. A great place to stop, catch your breath, and enjoy the lasting beauty of this historic square. We’ve been strolling along Graben for a while now, and the atmosphere here is simply wonderful. The terraces spill out onto the street, filled with people quietly enjoying their drinks and conversations. There’s a calm, unhurried vibe — the perfect place to pause and soak up Vienna’s charm. Here we have the Equestrian Statue of Archduke Karl, created in 1859 to celebrate his victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Aspern-Essling. Notice how the horse rises on its hind legs, supported only by two small points — a true engineering marvel for its time. This statue is not just about triumph, but also a tribute to courage and dedication, Now we’re inside the Sisi Museum, and if you look up — just take a moment to admire that stunning dome. It’s the kind of ceiling that doesn’t just cover a room — it tells a story. We’re now outside the Sisi Museum, admiring the main façade. Look up — the building is full of symbolic statues and imperial details. Figures like Justice, Strength, and Peace stand proudly above the entrance. You’ll also see the double-headed eagle and Habsburg coat of arms — bold signs of empire. What we hear are the bells of St. Michael’s Church — one of the oldest churches in Vienna. Their echo adds the perfect touch to this royal setting. Here at Michaelerplatz, you can see real archaeological ruins — a glimpse into the Roman and medieval life beneath modern Vienna These ruins were uncovered between 1989 and 1991, revealing Roman remains from the 1st to 4th centuries AD. What you see are parts of a Roman house, a blacksmith’s workshop, and even traces of heated floors. Above them? Layers from the medieval and Baroque periods, all stacked beneath today’s city. It’s like Vienna opened a time capsule — and left it right here in the middle of the square. We’re standing in Michaelerplatz — one of the oldest and most iconic squares in Vienna. This was once the grand entrance to the Imperial Palace, the Hofburg. Everything around us here breathes imperial elegance. Just imagine royal carriages once rolling through these streets… Only in Vienna can time stand still and rush forward — all in one square. We’re now walking along Kohlmarkt, one of Vienna’s most elegant and historic shopping streets. Today, it’s lined with luxury boutiques — from Rolex to Louis Vuitton— a true paradise for designer fashion lovers. But once, this was a simple market street where people sold coal — hence the name Kohlmarkt. Over time, it transformed into a royal shopping route, connecting the Imperial Palace to the city center. Even if you’re just window shopping, the architecture and atmosphere here are worth the stroll. What do you think about these designer shops — are they worth the price, or just beautifully packaged hype? It seems some of these brands are doing so well, they can afford to take over an entire building — right here in the heart of Vienna. Pretty impressive, right? Or maybe… a bit over the top? Let me know what you think — smart business, or just showing off? You can’t walk through central Vienna without spotting the famous Fiaker — the traditional horse-drawn carriages. They’ve been part of city life since the 18th century, and they still add a special charm to the streets today. The horses are always beautifully groomed, calm, and elegant — like they know they’re part of the show. You’ll hear the soft clip-clop echoing through the old streets — it’s like a soundtrack from another time. Some say it’s touristy, others say it’s pure magic. We’ve just arrived in front of St. Peter’s Church — or Peterskirche, as the locals call it. Tucked between the buildings, it might surprise you — but step back a little and look up… it’s stunning. It was inspired by St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and you can definitely feel that grandeur. The interior is pure Baroque drama — gold, marble, and light all working together to leave you speechless. Above us, that massive dome is painted with a breathtaking fresco — showing the Coronation of the Virgin. You’ll notice how every inch is richly decorated, but still feels peaceful — like stepping into a sacred theatre. The altar glows with gilded details, surrounded by angelic sculptures that seem to float in motion. And when the organ plays? It echoes through the dome like heaven itself is humming. If you liked this video, a simple thumbs up would really help! Thanks a million for your support!🙏 It’s not the biggest church in Vienna, but it’s easily one of the most beautiful. Wouldn’t you agree? We’ve just stepped into the Volksgarten, and it’s like walking into a postcard. The air is filled with birdsong, the gentle splash of fountains, and the scent of blooming roses all around. Could you see yourself living in a city like this, surrounded by history and beauty every day? Everywhere you look, there’s color — perfectly arranged flowerbeds, deep green lawns, and beautiful statues And just ahead of us — what a beautiful surprise. A lady playing a grand harp, right here among the flowers. The notes are soft, delicate… almost floating through the air like petals in the wind. It feels angelic — her music blending with the scent of roses Moments like this make Vienna feel like a dream you don’t want to wake up from. This part of the walk is a little paradise — especially for all the ladies watching Volksgarten is filled with beauty, grace, and elegance… just like you. So I’d like to dedicate this moment — and every flower here — to you. And to all the gentlemen watching — this part is for the incredible women in your life. Your mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, or someone special who makes your world brighter. Because they deserve more than words. They deserve a whole garden. 🌹 I really wish I could send you the scent of these flowers through the screen… But until smell-o-vision becomes a thing, you’ll just have to imagine it — sweet, fresh, and a little bit magical. Trust me, it’s the kind of fragrance that makes you stop and smile for no reason at all. I’m waiting for you right here — hop in this car and let’s go for a ride! No GPS needed, just good vibes, pretty views, and a breeze in your hair as we cruise through Vienna. We’ve just arrived in Rathausplatz, one of Vienna’s most iconic squares — and today, it’s buzzing with life! In front of us stands the Rathaus, the majestic City Hall, built in the late 1800s in neo-Gothic style. Look at those pointed arches and that soaring tower — like a fairytale castle, but made for city politics. Right now, the square is transformed by a local event — full of colorful food stalls, drinks, and live music. The smell of grilled specialties floats through the air, and everywhere you turn, people are smiling, eating, and enjoying the sounds of a cozy live concert nearby. We’re now standing in front of the Austrian Parliament — and it’s easy to see why this place is so special. The Parliament was built between 1874 and 1883 in an elegant Greek-Revival style by Theophil Hansen, inspired by ancient democracy temples Right in front, admire the majestic Pallas Athena Fountain (completed 1902), crafted by Carl Kundmann and colleagues You see Athena, goddess of wisdom, holding a spear in one hand and Nike (victory) in the other — a symbol of justice and strength And just like in so many places of beauty, people toss coins into the water — making silent wishes while honoring a timeless ritual. Surrounding the fountain basin are statues personifying major rivers of the old empire — Danube, Inn, Elbe, and Vltava — along with playful putti riding dolphins What wish would you make here? Just look at those towering columns — inspired by ancient Greek temples, they give the building a grand, timeless feel. We’ve now arrived at Maria-Theresien-Platz, one of the most beautiful open spaces in Vienna. The green lawns are perfectly manicured, the fountains gently bubbling, and the whole square feels calm and majestic. It’s a peaceful spot to sit, relax, and take in the view — with birds, flowers, and history all around you. At the center stands the grand monument to Empress Maria Theresa Surrounded by statues of her advisors, generals, and artists. And on each side of the square? Two almost identical buildings, facing each other like elegant twins. On the left: the Natural History Museum — full of fossils, gems, and dinosaur skeletons. On the right: the Art History Museum, home to masterpieces by Rubens, Rembrandt, and Raphael. If you’re looking for an easy way to see a lot of Vienna without wearing out your shoes — you can’t miss the Big Bus Vienna tours. These double-decker, open-top buses are perfect for getting a full view of the city’s highlights. You can hop on and off as you like, with stops near major sights like Schönbrunn Palace, the Opera, and the Ringstrasse. Or you can take one of these electric cars — more private, more flexible, but also more expensive than the Big Bus. We’ve just climbed onto the rooftop terrace of Haus des Meeres — and the panoramic view is simply breathtaking. Right below us is the Haus des Meeres aquarium — spread across seven fascinating floors. We explored it earlier: sharks, turtles, tropical fish, reptiles — a true little adventure for my boy! Now at the top, Vienna unfolds beneath us: rooftops, domes, the Ringstrasse — it’s like holding the whole city in your hands. Gentle breeze, 360° view… it’s a magical way to end our journey through this historic flak tower turned marine zoo. What a perfect spot to pause and soak it all in. We’re now in Burggarten — one of Vienna’s most elegant and peaceful gardens. Once the private garden of the Habsburgs, today it’s open to everyone — and it’s a favorite spot for locals to relax. You’ll find perfectly trimmed lawns, graceful statues, and lots of quiet corners to sit and enjoy the view. And now, right in front of us, stands the Hofburg — the former imperial palace and one of the most iconic landmarks in Vienna. For over 600 years, this was the center of power for the Habsburg dynasty. Today, it houses museums, the Austrian president’s office, and even the famous Spanish Riding School. Its architecture is a mix of Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicist styles — a true reflection of Vienna’s layered history. And just look at the grand staircase in front — it’s a popular spot for wedding photo shoots. It’s not uncommon to see a bride and groom capturing their fairytale moment right here, with the palace as their royal backdrop. And just ahead is the Schmetterlinghaus — the Butterfly House. A tropical paradise where hundreds of colorful butterflies fly freely around you. My little boy’s already inside and told me it’s like a jungle full of butterflies — magical and warm! We’re now by the Albertina — one of Vienna’s top art museums, home to works by Dürer, Monet, Picasso, and many more. In front stands the elegant statue of Archduke Albrecht, a key military figure from the 19th century. Would you go for a classical concert… or just enjoy Vienna from a cozy café terrace? And from up here, you get a beautiful view over the Opera House, the rooftops of the old town, and the lively streets below. It’s one of those spots where history and city life come together perfectly. As we walk from Albertina, take a moment to look around — the architecture here is stunning. Elegant façades with detailed stonework, grand windows, and that classic Viennese charm everywhere you look. These buildings reflect the city’s golden age, when every corner was designed to impress. And just ahead, we face the Monument Against War and Fascism — a powerful reminder of Austria’s darkest chapter. This tall tower is the bell and clock tower of the Augustinian Church Originally built in 1652, it once stood proudly above the medieval monastery church It collapsed during a fire in the revolutionary years of 1848, but was faithfully reconstructed in 1852, and has stood watch over this historic street ever since We’ve just stepped into Josephplatz — a quiet but majestic square tucked inside the Hofburg complex. Enjoyed the journey? A like would mean the world to me — thank you so much for being here! 🙌 In the center stands the impressive equestrian statue of Emperor Joseph II, cast in bronze in the early 1800s. In front of us is the Austrian National Library — with its elegant white façade, golden details, and millions of historic books inside. We’ve just stepped through this narrow archway — it really feels like a hidden passage. The ceiling above us is beautifully painted, with rich colors and ornate designs that catch the eye. It’s a small space, but full of character — like a quiet whisper from Vienna’s imperial past. And just ahead of is the Schweizertor — the Swiss Gate. In the Inner Courtyard of the Hofburg, right by the monument to Emperor Franz I — a true centerpiece of imperial Vienna. The bronze statue shows him in a calm, thoughtful pose, dressed in a Roman-style toga, symbolizing wisdom and leadership. Around the base, you’ll see four female figures representing Peace, Justice, Strength, and Faith — the virtues of his reign. This courtyard, once surrounded by the daily life of the empire, now feels like a quiet open-air museum. It’s a perfect place to pause and imagine the footsteps of emperors echoing through the stone. Here are a few fun facts about Vienna that might surprise you: Vienna is known as the City of Music — Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert all lived and worked here. Even today, the city hosts over 15,000 concerts a year! It’s massive, symmetrical, and full of imperial elegance — a reminder that every angle of this palace was built to impress. And now it’s time to fulfill my little boy’s special wish — a ride in a horse-drawn carriage through Vienna! It’s one of those classic experiences almost everyone dreams of trying here. 6. It's sad to think the municipality of Vienna couldn't replace the stones of the street they removed and, in its place, put tar. they had to remove the stone why not put it back? I'll answer. Who did it is cheap and should be removed from her position.
