Vagabonding (?) Japan: Kagoshima

[Music] [Music] Just got to Kagoshima airport and I’m going to try and get to the city somehow. Bought a uh sandwich for 270 yen. cheapest food I could get. So, yeah, I think I’m going to try hitchhiking. Can’t find really any good spots for hitchhiking. The 7-Eleven would be good except for it’s on the wrong side of the road, so everything’s backwards here. Hopefully, that’s the last flight I’m going to have to take so far, though, cuz uh I’m I’m really getting tired of hearing a stupid airport terrible English by the uh pilots or whatever. I don’t know. Sounds like AI generated voice. Just finished my hitchhiking sign. Made this out of some random bag that I found on the airplane. But, uh, it says Kagoshima. I can speak Japanese, which I kind of can. I can kind of understand it better than I can speak it. So, going to go stand in the corner down there somewhere and try and get a ride. Well, so far I’ve been standing at this airport corner for like 20 minutes. This isn’t working. had two people stop, but they’re not going in the same direction. So, probably gonna have to relocate to 7-Eleven or something. I don’t know. Just got dropped off in Kagoshima. I gave a hitchhiking cuz uh spent an hour and a half. Didn’t get anyone picking me up. After first 10 minutes, two people stopped. They’re going the wrong way. I am 9 miles away from the ferry terminal. I didn’t take it though. So, hopefully I make it there in time. It’s currently 1:12. I had to make it to the ferry terminal before six and I have nine and a half miles of walking into. So hopefully all goes well. Well, I didn’t end up walking the 9 miles because I honestly didn’t feel like walking it. And also I ran across a tram that said it would only take 170 yen, which is like $1.50 to go seven of those miles. So I only have to walk two miles now. Didn’t cost me that much. So, yeah, saved me some time. Something I noticed when I was on the uh tram, though. It’s that some rash on my arm or something. I don’t know. Probably from airport food or some probably just the shitty food I’m eating. My arms are just having allergic reaction. Maybe I touched something in that bamboo forest last night. I don’t know. It’s freaking me out, though. I got to say this ferry terminal is in the middle of nowhere. I keep walking and walking. I was in like nice posh area of Kagoshima with all those luxury shops and everything. Now there’s like Anytime Fitness and Family Mart, just random stores. Kind of like reminds me of the parts of America where you get to the edge of the town, there’s all the crackheads and freaking meth dealers and But yeah, I mean it it’s Japan, I guess, so they don’t have druggies. Still kind of like urban sprawl. Not that impressive. Trying to make it to the coast because there’s like a volcano there, but there’s this stupid traffic here and I can’t cross. So yeah, probably another half an hour till I reach the uh ferry terminal and I can have a good nice view of the volcano and everything. Something funny I just found. Colonel Sanders. I guess I really love this guy here. Another random cool thing I found. Godzilla holding I don’t know the lady in anyway Godzilla themed. I don’t know what the hell that is but looks cool. And yeah, there’s monkey. So yeah. Well, just got my ferry ticket. That was really terrible experience coming all the way out here. Got no sleep last night, no food today, and no water. So, I’m lacking almost everything a human needs to survive. I am feeling very miserable right now. So, I’m going to go buy some food. Hopefully, uh fill myself up. I’m going to need to buy breakfast, lunch, and dinner for myself since I skipped breakfast and lunch. All I’ve had to eat today was three 7-Eleven sandwiches, which was more like one. um calorie mate and four handfuls of mixed nuts. So yeah, basically had nothing to eat. And my water has just been bathroom water that I’ve found just filling up at Family Mart as I go. Tastes like chlorine. Probably is chlorinated. So, who knows? That’s probably why I have that skin rash. But yeah, I I really don’t want to go to Yakushima right now, but kind of forcing myself to. I’m probably gonna do no walking tomorrow at all. I just got a one-way ticket for now because round trip. I don’t know if I’m going to be able to make it back within two days. Well, just got back from convenience store and uh got some food. cherry tomatoes, a uh I don’t even know, just two sets of meals. I think one’s curry and the other’s just like rice and some fried chicken thing. Anyway, washed the cherry tomatoes in the sped bathroom sink or whatever the hell you want to call it and uh ate them and I’m already feeling a little better. also refilled my water in the sink, which is a process that kind of takes a while because you have to like activate the sensor and shove the water bottle under and just keep repeating that until you fill up the water bottle. Takes about 2 minutes. So, yeah, I’m going to go to Yakushima tonight, though. Hopefully, all goes well. Well, finally on the ferry now after waiting forever. Got a little nap, which was nice. I think I felt like cuz I hadn’t had any sleep last night. Yeah, the view from here is pretty good. Got active volcano over there. You got ocean back here. Then you got like some sort of rocket. I don’t know. I’m trying to figure out what it is. But yeah, the rooms are really crammed and nasty. So, I don’t know. I guess it’s less dirty than sleeping on the ground. Currently, it’s 3:00 a.m. We’re docked at Tanagashima right now. I cannot sleep right now because I went to bed at 6:30 last night. So, I’m just up and enjoying the night scenery, but it’s another 4 hours until I reach Yakushima. I think I’m probably going to end off my video here. The ferry just left from Kanagoshima like an hour or two ago, and I’m feeling pretty good after a good night’s sleep. Yesterday was a lot of money spent. Hopefully I won’t ever have to spend that much money again this whole trip. But yeah, I mean I I’m going to probably end up spending just a little more money when I get to Yakushima because I have not bathed in 2 days and my clothes feel sticky. So I’m probably going to take a bath at the bath house and then uh clean my clothes in one of the disabled bathroom sinks. So yeah, I mean looking forward to Yakushima. Hopefully I’m not going to die from all the hiking I’m going to do.
