23rd May 2025 – (Tokyo) Japanese authorities apprehended a former taxi driver in Tokyo on suspicions of drugging and assaulting a female passenger, with media outlets reporting the possibility of numerous additional victims. Reports from Yomiuri Shimbun and Jiji Press indicated the discovery of approximately 3,000 videos and images capturing the driver engaging in sexual misconduct with about 50 women either in his taxi or residence.

Last year, the man allegedly induced a woman in her twenties to consume sleeping pills, causing her to lose consciousness. Subsequently, he transported her to his home, where he committed inappropriate acts while recording the incident on his phone.

The 54-year-old was detained on Wednesday under allegations of non-consensual sexual activities and violating laws concerning the filming of sexual content. Traces of sleeping pills were reportedly found in the woman’s hair, as per media accounts.

The retrieved footage from the suspect’s devices dated back to 2008, illustrating a prolonged history of misconduct.

In a separate incident last October, he was arrested for similar accusations involving drugging a woman and robbing her. Despite being released subsequently, he was apprehended again in December for purported indecent assault.

The police discovered disturbing footage and images on the suspect’s smartphone, portraying alleged lewd acts involving around 50 female passengers inside his vehicle and at his residence.

The accused individual has denied the charges, claiming a lack of recollection regarding the incidents. In 2024, he faced arrest for allegedly drugging and robbing another female passenger. Following a release, he was detained once more in December on charges related to indecent behaviour towards other women.
