8 Must Try Food Experiences in Tokyo! 🗼The choices are endless 😩
Here are eight food experiences we loved and recommend in Tokyo cuz it’s already hard enough as it is to choose where to eat in this massive city. Starting with my favorite, ramen. Each part of Japan has their regional take, and show you ramen is one of the most common styles in Tokyo with its flavorful yet light soy sauce based broth. I love how it’s considered almost like a fast food in Japan. But they weren’t kidding because the man next to us devoured his bowl in 5 minutes. Yakitori is a must if you love trying different variations of chicken, meat, and vegetables in a skewer form. These are cooked over a charcoal fire for that smoky umami taste. And if you’re super adventurous, some places offer raw chicken. But don’t worry, we didn’t get sick at all the next day. For a more bougie experience, going to an omicass became one of our highlights of the trip. And for our first time, we wanted to go somewhere that was a bit more modern, such as Udatsu Sushi. We had an insane amount of high quality sushi, which is no surprise as it earned a Michelin star. Japanese bakeries are another thing to take off while you’re here. And the best way to start the day exploring with soft pillowy breads and pastries from curry pans, sandos, shakup pans, and so much more. And for those who love a textural and meaty experience, Tonkatsu from Budagumi is the best of the best. You will have a choice of different cuts to choose from lean to fatty pieces, making for the juiciest katsus you’ll ever have while still having that perfectly golden and crunchy outside. For a cheap breakfast, don’t be scared to hit up chains because the fast food quality in Japan is amazing. Comed coffee is great for their breakfast sets, but make sure to come here before 11:00 a.m. since you can get a free toast with a condiment or spread of your choice if you order a drink, but for something more traditional and healthy, we love Shinpachi Shakuro for their rice sets where you get to pick a seafood of your choice, leaving you replenished for the day. Now, I know some say to avoid Sukiji Market, but I say if it’s your first time in Tokyo, just experience it and eat as much as you can. There’s various food vendors from seafood, waggy skewers, ongi, desserts, and so much more. Worse comes to worse, you just don’t go next time. And lastly, go to as many coffee shops as you can. I know matcha is a must in Japan, but their coffee culture is some of the best around the world, especially if you love drip coffee. Still doesn’t beat New Zealand though.
