Welcome To The Best View In Japan!
Don’t make this Mistake
We had the 5 Lakes area planned on out itinerary, but it was cloud and rain on our days. We stayed flexible and altered our plans to go on a clear day. If seeing Mt Fuji is important to you, you have to be flexible. There is a website that has the Fuji visibility forecast so make sure to keep checking that a couple days before you go!
Everything You Need to Know to Travel to This Spot as it is more Complicated than you might think!
There is an 80% chance of seeing Mt Fuji, due to cloud cover! We actually changed our plans a couple of times in order to get a view. Here are some tips on travelling on a clear day and getting to this spot.
Getting Here:
This is the Kawaguchiko area and it is only 1.5hrs from Tokyo. Many people do day trips, so that means, crowds get to this area at about 9am. I highly recommend staying the night.

This spot is Chureito Pagoda and it is quite popular, but
one of the best spots to see Mt Fuji. We took the first train from Lake Kawaguchiko at 5am and got to this spot. But!! It was completely cloudy. We stayed for 3 hours and it did not clear, even though the weather said full visibility.
Anyways, a couple hours later the clouds broke and there was full views. We rented a bike in the area and biked the 10km from the lake to the pagoda and went again at sunset to get these videos. Sooo soo happy.
What To Expect
We were not alone at sunset. We actually had to wait in a 45 minute line up to go to this viewpoint. I mean the line looked over the blossoms and Fuji so it was not that bad, just surprising. Once the line gets to the pagoda, you have exactly 5 minutes up there before the next set of people. It was kind of mayhem. This 5 minute increment is only between 9pm-5pm so we got there right when it stopped before sunset so we could have longer.
