Nagaokakyo Tour Guide in Kyoto Japan
Nagaoka Tenmangu Shrine is a very attractive photo spot, and because it is located outside of Kyoto City, many people have never visited it. However, it is actually surprisingly close, just 11 minutes from JR Kyoto Station. Nagaokakyo is located southwest of Kyoto and has a history of functioning as the capital of Japan for 10 years. It is a famous bamboo shoot producing area in Kyoto, and there are bamboo shoot direct sales shops and dishes using bamboo shoots on sale. As I crossed the bridge, I noticed some stalls set up. They were preparing to open, so I walked around the main hall and the surrounding area for a while. Kinsuitei is a beautiful restaurant with a wisteria trellis that was founded in 1881. Tatami rooms built in the style of a traditional Japanese house are scattered throughout the restaurant. It is stunningly beautiful. In spring, they serve dishes using seasonal bamboo shoots,
and in summer, autumn, and winter, they serve Kyoto cuisine using carefully selected ingredients. The bamboo shoots in Nagaokakyo are said to have a soft texture, no bitter taste, and a strong aroma, so I’m looking forward to eating them. This is the main hall. Tenmangu Shrine enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning. There is a cow statue in the shrine grounds, and people stroke its head to pray for academic success. It is a beautiful Japanese garden with fresh greenery. I thought about whether I should eat bamboo shoot rice or sweets. This is the exterior of the restaurant we just visited. It was my first time seeing bamboo shoot sweets, so I chose the traditional Japanese sweet monaka. This monaka won an award at a confectionery exhibition. It comes in three varieties: white bean paste, Kyoto yuzu, and red bean paste. Oh…I should have torn the wrapping paper like I do when peeling bamboo shoots! It contains candied bamboo shoots. It has a crisp texture but is softer and tastier than you’d expect. There is bamboo shoot inside the yuzu paste. The refreshing flavor of yuzu goes well with bamboo shoots. Bamboo shoots go well with sweets! At the water bridge, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and animals of each season. I also met a monkey!(I met some monkeys at Flea Market) The Kobe Monkeys perform the traditional monkey show at their theater in Kobe. The next tourist spot is a 24-minute walk away. You can also use the bus. This park was selected as one of Japan’s 100 best historical parks. Have you ever heard of the name Hosokawa Gracia?
Gracia’s tragic end was so well-known overseas in the 19th century. These are the words she left behind before she died. A flower is beautiful as a flower in the world only when it knows when it is time to fall. Humans, too, should know their own end and leave with dignity when that time comes. At the top of the hill there is a map that shows where Akechi Mitsuhide and Hashiba Hideyoshi’s camps were positioned during the Battle of Yamazaki. It was built on the remains of Shoryuji Castle, with the first floor of the castle serving as a rest area and the second floor as a history museum. This is the family crest of the Hosokawa clan and is called Kuyo. It is a pattern that is said to represent nine stars. It looks like a baby’s butt and is so cute!
