これが「仙台すずめ踊り」だ！This is”Sendai Suzume Odori”!
小気味よいテンボ、躍動感あふれる軽やかな踊り姿。
仙台すずめ踊りは、1603年、堺（現在の大阪府堺市）から移り住んだ石工たちが、伊達政宗公の前で即興で披露した踊りにはじまるといわれています。
雀の姿に似ていることや、伊達家の家紋が「竹に雀」であったことから「すずめ踊り」と呼ばれるようになり、長く親しまれてきました。
第二次世界大戦後、次第に継承者を失い、昭和25年には途絶えてしまいましたが、昭和62年（1987）第3回仙台青葉まつりより復活。
老若男女誰にでも楽しめる踊りとして5000余名により毎年盛大に踊りが披露されます。

A lively tempo and a light, dynamic dance.
Sendai Suzume Dance is said to have begun in 1603, when stonemasons who had moved from Sakai (present-day Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture) performed an impromptu dance in front of Date Masamune.
Because the dance resembled a sparrow and the Date clan’s crest was a sparrow and bamboo, it came to be called “Sparrow Dance” and has long been loved.
After World War II, the dance gradually lost its successors and ceased in 1950, but was revived at the 3rd Sendai Aoba Festival in 1987.
A dance that can be enjoyed by anyone, regardless of age or gender, more than 5,000 people perform it every year.
