300-Year Legendary Unagi In Yanagawa: Japan’s Must-Try Dish (+ Outlet Finds!)

Our last stop in Kyushu was the lesser-known, yet enchanting city of Yanagawa, where historic canals weave through serene landscapes, creating a timeless atmosphere. The experience wasn’t just about the canals though. It was also about the flavours. We sought out Ganso Motoyoshiya, a restaurant with a 300-year legacy, and indulged in their legendary eel dish. The tender, perfectly grilled eel, glazed with a sweet and savory sauce, was a culinary masterpiece, a fitting end to our Kyushu adventure.

On our last full day in Fukuoka, Japan, we explored Kyushu’s largest premium outlet and its vast array of brands before leaving Fukuoka.

And that wraps up our first-ever self-guided, 11-day, 4-city tour of Kyushu! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you. I hope this series inspires you to venture off the beaten path and discover a different part of Japan.

Our home base in Yanagawa: Hotel Route-Inn Yanagawa Ekimae

Our last night at Fukuoka: Nishitetsu Hotel Croom Hakata Gion
