OSAKA — A passenger riding an Osaka Metro Co. train suffered a suspected chemical burn on Oct. 10 after sitting on a wet seat.
A station attendant called the police at around 9:35 p.m., saying, “Chemicals were poured on a train seat, and a passenger sitting on it got burned.” Osaka Prefectural Police’s Miyakojima Police Station explained that the man in his 50s who had been on Osaka Metro’s Tanimachi Line was treated at a hospital, but the injury to his bottom is believed to be minor.
According to the police, the man boarded the last car of the train at Temmabashi Station at around 8:45 p.m. He did not notice that the seat was wet, but after about five minutes he began to feel pain in his buttocks and got off the train at Miyakojima Station. He reportedly explained that the liquid was odorless.
The police are investigating the components of the liquid on the seat.
