Snow started falling as a young couple climbed the lantern-lit 100-step stairway of Osaki-Hachimangu Shrine in Sendai, Miyagi Prefecture. The gorgeous National Treasure is the oldest surviving architecture of Azuchi-Momoyama period (1573-1615) constructed by the ‘One-eyed Dragon,’ Lord Masamune Date, who packed the shrine with the finest arts and crafts of the era.
