Night cherry blossoms in Kyoto, Maruyama Park & Gion Shirakawa

1. Maruyama park
The weeping cherry tree of Maruyama Park is one of Kyoto’s most iconic trees.
Local people call The tree “Gion shidare-zakura” (weeping cherry tree of Gion).

As the first tree, which lived over 200 years, was dead, the second tree was planted in 1949.
The weeping cherry tree at the Honmanji temple is its sister.

In this park, you find another big cherry tree on the hillside.
Try to find it!

Many tourists come to the park when the cherry trees are in full bloom.
There are food vendors lining both sides of the walkway. so it’s quite lively!

At night, the trees are illuminated from late March to early April (18:00 to 22:00).

2. Gion Shirakawa
One of the most popular tourist spots in Kyoto.
It consists of a stone-paved alleyway with wooden machiya (townhouses).
In spring, cherry trees create beautiful scenery.
At night, these trees are illuminated so it attracts numerous visitors.
