Munakata Taisha

Munakata Taisha is one of Japan’s oldest shrines, believed to have been founded by Empress Jingū. The shrine complex consists of three shrines: Okitsumiya on Okinoshima Island, Nakatsumiya on Ōshima Island, and Hetsumiya on the mainland. Okinoshima is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its ancient sacred relics and its role in the history of Japan and East Asia.
