▶kamawan かまわん
I found abother good Udon dining in Fukuoka where the number of Ramen and Udon dinigs are probably the world best.
Udon Kamawan in Haruyoshi area where many small restaurants gather.
Beef sinew Udon with fried burdock was very good and I highly recommend it.

Open Mon-Sat. 11:30a.m.〜2:00a.m.

▶oton おとん
Yakitori is popular in Fukuoka but I also like Kushiage – fried vegitables、 seafood, meat on skewer. The owner of Oton trained 8 years in a famous Kushiage dining in Hokkaido and opened this dining in Fukuoka. One bite will surprise you – Umami of ingredients bursts in your mouth with crispy outside, creating heavenly harmony. This Kushiage is a professional work.

Open Mon-Sat. 11:30-14:00/17:00-22:00(L.O21:30)

▶Butamabushi ぶたまぶし
Braised pork on top of rice sounds already mouth-watering, but it is even better if you taste it. How you eat it was very fun and entertaining, changing the flavors with blended spices and homemade sauce. In the end, drip Katsuo & Kombu dashi, pour it over your rice
and finish it. This Butamabushi is available only on Friday to Sunday during lunch time.

English menu available.
Lunch Fri-Sun only 11:30 –

  1. Hi 2nd Passport. Yes, Fukuoka offer a lot of restaurants of all kinds and prive levels. There are many small places with surprisingly good and affordable food up to kaiseki style and teppanyaki. In Nakasu where we lived we used to go to a small place in the cellar run by one woman alone. In the evenings she served only crab, but set lunch was varied at 500 yen and excellent. There was no sign at the entrance door, just a painted crab, I have no idea how we found the place. We became regulars over the years and the woman brought my beer without asking. The braised pork lunch in Daimyo looks fabulous! With my beef bowls, natto and other stuff I always had a raw egg. I have continued to eat raw eggs back in Europe. I think it is a myth that raw eggs are bad, created by uninformed journalists who want to make horror headlines. Never been ill from raw egg. Nishinakasu and into Haruyoshi is amazing, very small streets, sometimes like a labyrinth and many small restos, a favourite quarter in Fukuoka. Oton looked very good with deep fried seafood and veggies skewers. Soon this spring it is time to go to the forest and pick ramsons and fiddlehead fern etc for tempura. We had a yakitori place in Nakasu we went to at least once a week, a simple place with one boss and one helper. I found yakitori so much more diverse in Fukuoka than other places like Tokyo, different kinds of meat and motsu plus veggies, even pig feats, not only chicken with or without sauce. We loved the food, but my gf hated to wash the clothes after every visit :-)) I often had a bottle of shochu with my gaijin name on it among 300 other named bottles, the boss found it immediately when we came in. The clients were either locals or salarymen. Beef and burdock udon seems like a prefect combo! Sumiyoshi is also very nice, many small restos. We have a good friend who lives there, she is a foodie, we have cooked a lot with her at her home home with her mother. Sorry, I write a lot, but your episodes bring back good memories from living in Fukuoka. Greatly appreciated! Arigato!
