It’s like a village of restos, souvenir shops, cafes located at the bottom of Kumamoto Castle.
There were enough shops to keep you occupied. Also there were food stalls that offer cheap, per piece snacks like buns, juices, teas, desserts, and also sit-down restos for ramen, bentos, teishoku. Some were on the pricey range tho like a usual ¥1000 bento would be around ¥1700-2000 here.
There were benches everywhere so no problem sitting down. I had my own food with me I got from a convenience store before our tour started so I just ate that.
Our stop here was part of a joiner day tour from Fukuoka so we had limited time.
