Cycling across Kyushu, JAPAN. Two days, 400kms, with very little flat ground.
After a failed attempt many, many moons ago (my rear wheel exploded, but I won’t go into that!), myself and my good friend Fernando finally completed our often-considered and long-talked-about cross-navigation of the Japanese island of Kyushu.
Starting at Kumamoto Port in Kumamoto Prefecture, and ending at Saiki Port in Oita prefecture, we climbed and descended our way from coast to coast over the mountains at the heart of Kyushu.
I was riding my now trusty Merlin Malt G2X Gravel / Allroad bike, which I built from the frameset up three years ago, using mostly 105 components with the odd sneaky bit of Ultegra, and TRP when I couldn’t stomach the cost of the Shimano alternative.
