Does Traveling to a Country = Supporting its Government?

In this video I spend a day exploring the Siwa Oasis in the Sahara desert of Egypt and discuss the issue of whether traveling to a country means that you are supporting the policies of its government.

  1. You criticise Israel but have no solution. Maybe there is none.

Strongly recommend that you stick to travel rather than delve too deeply into politics. If that's the way you are going to go, I'll leave you too it and unsubscribe.

  2. well i am chinese, you know our govt and US govt aren't friends, and I think people is the people, govt is the govt you know what I mean? I mean people doesn't represent their govt and their govt doesn't representing their people sometimes

  3. You do a great job showing us different parts of the world. Not a good idea getting yourself involved in controversial topics.

  4. The kids on the balcony who took your camera initially wanted to take a picture with you, and then asked you if you would sell your camera, and asked you how much.. that was when you said I do not understand and left, smart move…

  5. I have been to a country that Gabe has never been to. I don't think he has. And it's right next door to where he is now. I still have fond memories of the adventures I had as a small child in Libya. I learned how to swim in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Benghazi. It was another world back then.

  6. I understand it must be difficult to have a travel channel when there are so many inflammatory political comments. It's hard for me to read some comments in your past videos attacking people of my background especially because of the lived experiences of close family members and the minority population they belonged to in a conflict area that have never been acknowledged by Western media and remains unknown by most people. It's difficult to screen all the comments, but I feel that on a travel channel people should refrain from making accusatory political comments- which I myself refrain from doing, despite having family members killed and missing during my own lifetime- which I bet those keyboard warriors do not have. I don't hold it against all people from that country or of that background or go to videos about that country specifically to chastise, insult or ridicule it. Sadly, there are quite a few commenters that do just that about the people from my background, and it's very unbecoming. I have met lovely people among the 'enemy' population and we have so much in common we should focus on instead. The channel would be more comfortable if these castigating comments that tend to get repeated over and over ad nauseum like a non-stop propaganda machine were banned. It's a travel and history channel, not a political one. I mentioned the name of an airport, not because I'm a war monger, but because it was a historical fact and found it interesting and thought it would help broaden some minds regarding the achievement of women in that society. I was instantly set upon and reminded for the umpteenth time of an event that occurred over 100 years ago that this woman probably had nothing directly to do with. I make political comments but not on travel channels because it's not appropriate.

  7. One would suggest that you stick to what you do best Gabriel and leave it at that.
To start making political statements and pandering to trolls that bait you into making statements you would not necessarily make normally, one would suggest it is not a good idea.
You have worked hard to build up a good subscription and Patreon base and it would be terrible to lose a lot of them because of politics
Your vlogs are looked forward to in this household, but if they become political our interest could very likely wane.
Keep on keeping on man, you’re a legend.
    Cheers🇦🇺🍺

  8. If you ever come back to Cairo you have an invitation for lunch with me in my home in Maadi, you're gonna like this beautiful neighborhood!

  9. I appreciate your thoughts on this important part of travel. As you imply, expecting to participate in what we fully agree with, unfortunately, means that it would be impossible not only to travel, but even to live in your own community. After all, you avoid taking a position as much as possible. Another central point: your videos open our understanding and care about places we've probably never experienced. This encourages people to, for example, learn more about Egypt and decide for themselves what they think and do about a place they felt no connection to only a few minutes before. Sure, some places and circumstances are too horrific to even visit, but most countries mix good and bad. By exposing us to both, at least from the POV of a visitor, helps your viewers understand a little more about what is happening and what they think about it. So be sure to venture on!

  10. Love your channel, been a fan for about 10 years. No interest in political matters when wanting travel content. I started to watch this clip and realised it wasn't for me. But others would differ. No problem. Travel on Gabe, you're still the best travel vlogger on YT.

  11. PS the core beauty of your channel is that allows us to get away, to escape from if you will, all the negative, nasty, and often political divisions. When I watch your videos, Sardinia for example, I feel like I am floating on clouds, way above all the man-made ugliness and crap.

  12. The boy illustrated what "how are you" means in Siwi (Ezayyak is actually Arabic not Siwi) then he wanted "Soora" which means photo (with you probably) then he asked if you want to sell the camera 🤣

  13. I enjoy your videos. Love watching your travels. Find your travel very inspirational.

Just stay away from politics. None of us know all the facts. The global media only show us what they want us to see. They lie on behalf of their paymasters.

So what you do is best. Travel observe and meet ordinary people.
    Figure out things for yourself.

You tube only allow certain narratives so don’t get involved. You will never be allowed a fair and open debate or else you will get shut down.

Do what you do best and keep away from politics. Leave the lies and propaganda to the highly paid politicians and the media.

Keep on doing what you do so well. Keep on travelling.
    Thanks.

  14. Love your travel vlogs but not interested in your political views and it will upset a lot of people in my opinion .

  15. I like it when you stick to making great travel videos and your not making statements about your political / geopolitical views or leanings

  16. Me personally recommend that you don't get into the politics of Israel in video because the subject is contentious your channel is built on peace for all

  17. Travel and tourism are matters that should not be part of politics in any way. Because life goes on And do not stop at the geography that has changed throughout history, and because everything is for us humans, it is better to plant the seed of love everywhere and leave to Caesar what is Caesar’s while God’s is God’s, as Christ said. ❤💙By the way, Siwa is a fantastic and amazing place, thanks Gabriel to entertain us with your beautiful trips

  18. You just had to go there didn't you? I watch your channel regularly because you never have gone there. At least mention Oct 7 and your opinion of what happened on that day. And the fact that Palestine publicly calls for the elimination of Jews, I'd like to hear your opinion of that as well.

  19. I had to deal with this the first time in 2006 when I went to Myanmar. I was on/off going not going and ended up going and trying to put as little of my money as possible in the way of the junta. I figured not going would be worse, cause if no one goes no one would know the true picture of a place. I have been to Israel, West Bank/Palestine, Kosovo and many others. Totally agree about not boycotting because of politics. Only cause of personal safety.

  20. Most of the time I think you can visit a country without supporting the government. In the case of North Korea though they impose such tight restrictions on tourists that I think visiting North Korea supports the government and not the people.

  21. Just some friendly advice you make fantastic videos!!! Stick with that so you can continue too be very successful!!! You’re definitely entitled to your personal opinion and I respect that ! But when you get into politics, you will lose half of your fan base and diminishing your ability to continue with your wonderful videos !!!

  22. Most big Euro powers had a brutal colonial past. Recently, the US invented neo-colonialism. Overthrowing government's they disagreed with and installing puppets. It's very reasonable to detain someone like that for questioning in Russia given current situation. 48 hours is not long. They dealt with him reasonably. People are detained in western countries for 24 hours on suspicion ,all the time. So you think NATO is not predatory at all, given their history, such an analysis is a joke. Who can take it seriously except a sucker!? They gave false pretexts for all their invasions. And definitely regime change in Russia is not a top priority of foreign policy, I mean it was Biden himself who says that "Putin has to go". Of course he needs to be super careful, and that's what he's doing.

  23. I encourage EVERYONE who supports Israel to unsubscribe from this terrorist loving fools channel! Good bye!!!

  24. what do you mean israel just invaded lebanon ? they started a war with us on 8/10 to support hamas who just commited atrocities rape and burning children alive on the 710 …. do you support hamas as well? it is really nice supporting peace and love when you dont have to deal with those satanic people. by the way your goverment policy prevented from israel to respond the way it should like the fact that we are being attacked with missiles for 11 months from lebanon without invadiding to their terittory…..i dond think that the us would let any country bomb her for 11 months without invading this country nor you supporting such a restraint.

  25. Thanks for keeping your travels pure and ethical. Big fan of your videos for last 8 years or so.

  26. You mentioned Trump … base your opinion on what happened during his presidency… think about that.

  27. I really hate you have to bring this crap up, I really enjoyed your videos. I’m done.

  28. First off > the definition of Government = to control or "the activities involved in controlling a country, city, group of people, etc.: "

2nd > Police/Military (in the West specifically) in general are used to protect the interest of the State > a significant misnomer many have is that Police is around to protect (& serve) which is seen in many police vehicles > what's omitted is the most important part ..to protect & serve… the Institutional Agenda.

These 2 very basic narratives demonstrate how indeed Humanity has been enslaved throughout much of History in various forms.

This is also why censorship is always becoming increasingly prolific as well … which offers more to the narrative Humanity is enslaved.

The monetary system yet another narrative… especially when fractional reserve is introduced into the script.

Could even take it another step adding time itself..the 24 hr clock 1 more element supporting the argument.

& here's 1 that applies especially to people like Gabriel….why is it that we need Passports to travel? Why is it we can't choose to stay wherever we want for as long as we want? …why is there any boundaries/State lines at all? > Of course this also provides the reason for conflict/war which is yet another narrative that is very systematically used to suppress the Masses…. especially in the us where the wars are never ending….the Western facing war machine….that your tax dollars support.

Soooo many examples supporting the narrative We're enslaved….these examples not even tipping the proverbial iceberg of the question.

    Freedom …or is it FreeDumb?

  29. It is not as simplistic question as Gabriel has asked and answered At what point do you draw the line. Pakistan harbored Bin Laden, so I guess Pakistan is OK?
Gabriel grew up in Northern California, he grew up in a non judgemental environment. He is a product of his up bringing.

  30. Often its not the people that is wrong in a country its the goverment that rule the country like Russia 🇷🇺.

  31. 3:40 ❤ gab we appreciate you showing us since the beginning of your blogs, ..the diversity of cultures and it's importance to history. .. so where ever 😊you travel does not influence or make a difference…20:40👀👀 No need to explain to us common sense viewers. Thanks for the history lessons as history is always important ❤️ 👍. U da best.
