Spooky Ferry Adventure in Japan: A Night on the Japan’s Forgotten Ship
I’m taking a 37-year-old ferry from Matsuyama to Kokura, which is known as the oldest ferry among medium to long distance routes in Japan.

So empty and deserted. Was there anyone else around?
An old ship, yes, but I would not expect her to be in that state just a few years after a refit especially given that she would have had fewer passengers during covid
I would certainly have spoken to the Purser or the company's equivalent about that because the state of that cabin alone was disgraceful
`A lovely old ferry that has seen better times.
First class? A room aboard a tramp steamer is twice the size and is cleaner.
I'm so sorry your cabin wasn't typical Japanese clean Mr. Solo Travel. It's rather surprising to see that floor in such condition considering the price you paid for that cabin. Those details can make the travel not quite so nice as it could be. Hope something can be done for that neglected cabin soon. It was a beautiful destination at least.🙂
Oh no that was not what you would expect for a 1st class cabin. The ferry and cabin not only showing it's age, but it's 'history' too!
That's not really first class. Really? Really?
Very nice. Thank you. (Why do you ride these ferry's? They always look empty… dang!)
No people but lots of spunky, non scary, music😊❤❤❤
When's the haunted Sunflower Ghost Ship ferry tour?
If you shined a UV light around that cabin it would light up like a Christmas tree.
Well how sad was that? High price and no bathroom, grimy, short iffy bunk. More like our ferrys.😅
Is it rude to complain about lodging in Japan? If not, have you thought about making a complaint for the dirty room? I hope with all the mold and mildew I seen on the ceiling that you didn't get sick .
Stains on the floor cost extra. Really seems like an "only take it to get there" kind of ferry.
That was one shocking trip😮. The price was really high but I thought first class would mean first class not bunk beds that were falling apart near a stain with a light fixture full of dust probably collecting from the last five years. Edgar Allen Poe would have written a poem about your trip.

@15:21 Indeed, one needs to check if every ice cream machine is working when you pass it 🤣
STJ-San enduring primitive conditions for our entertainment! 👻
Just remember you do not have to take that ferry again, hopefully!
That carpet was an eye sore…At least they let you stay till 7:00 am..
Thank you for your sacrifice so we don't have to!
<sigh> Another curry-free adventure. What could go wrong? 😉
Instead of waving lights and bidding farewell to the ferry as it departed, I bet the ferry company workers threw rocks at it from the dock.
Perhaps THE most shocking vid I can recall. I can't think of a worse combination of price and (lack of) quality on any ferry trip I've seen.
Looked worse the second time, ngl. Even the power plugs looked shocked. 😮.
JAPAN… one of the LAST peaceful, racially SAFE countries in the world
Ghost stain on the cabin floor, black mold in the ventilation fan– at least you didn't have to share your cabin with a pirate ghost…did you?
The last ferry i was on, a couple of weeks ago, was the Princess Seaways. 38 years old, but felt much more up to date than this one.
No way would I have accepted that cabin. A floor that filthy is unacceptable. That ceiling is disgusting. You are brave to stay in that place.
Oof, definitely a bit of a let down given the state of the room. That’s good for us to know if we plan on using this route though! I also liked how the announcements were in English too, the tough thing we had with Shin Nihonkai Ferry was that we couldn’t understand the announcements. Still fun though!!
And of course you needed to see if the vending machine was working! It’s important work, so thank you Solo-san 😊
Your videos are always very calming and informative. You travel the way I would love to travel. Very low key, low stress and very enriching. Better yet, you manage to eat very delicious foods, no matter how simple the travel mode is. I love these ferry videos and how you select from the low end to the high end and show us the difference of amenities between each fare group. Thank you very much and best wishes for more safe and rewarding travels.
I was not prepared for the pan up to that ceiling vent. 🤢
It's not first class
I love your positive attitude towards this disappointing trip, very admirable 🤘💜🤘
wow – that room is gross – looks like mold on the ceiling vent. Eeeew. Glad you survived the trip. Sorry you had to experience that.
dust ? nonono…looks more like pubic hairs
Next time you make a video about a ferry trip could you include it's whistle/horn at some point. There is a whole thing with ppl wanting to hear them.
Nice trip
that ferry is older than me
