  1. Does GO work for tourists? We tried that last March, and it was asking for a Japanese mobile number.

  2. Country side and small cities yes, Tokyo, NO. They tried to rip me off during the day by taking the long way twice until I began speaking Japanese to them. Then, when I asked for their business card they just let me off the cab and drove off.

  3. I feel like this video is luring people into trusting taxis will be readily available in the countryside, and can be always be hailed through the GO app. Neither is true. It can be very hard to find a taxi in the countryside and they often call it a day even before the last train arrives in their town. And the GO app doesn't serve all areas. Although they claim to serve 45 of the 47 prefectures, in Shikoku (for which they say all 4 prefectures are served) it told me I'm out of the services area everywhere, even in central Takamatsu which has plenty of taxis.
