Last April 2024, I had a delightful day trip to Otaru. I started my day with a visit to the Otaru Canal, which is absolutely picturesque with its historic warehouses lining the waterway. The atmosphere there was so charming and nostalgic.

After exploring the canal, I decided to take a rickshaw ride. It was such a unique way to see the city, and the rickshaw driver was very knowledgeable, sharing interesting stories about Otaru’s history and pointing out various landmarks along the way.

One of the highlights of my trip was visiting the old rail museum. The museum offers a fascinating glimpse into Otaru’s past as a bustling port town. It was interesting to see the old trains and learn about their significance in the city’s development.

For lunch, I went to a local brewery and had some of their famous Otaru beer. The beer was excellent, with a crisp and refreshing taste that perfectly complemented the day’s activities.

Later, I explored the local market, which was bustling with vendors selling fresh seafood, local produce, and various other goods. I tasted some local food, which was delicious and gave me a real sense of the local cuisine. I also tried some local bread, which was freshly baked and had a unique flavor.

Overall, my day in Otaru last April was filled with scenic beauty, historical exploration, and delicious food and drink. It’s a wonderful place to visit, and I highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Japan.
