things not to do in Japan instead of crossing your fingers and hoping to see a geisha do a micro makeover photo shoot this is one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had in Japan we booked a reservation in advance and they completely transformed our hair makeup and let us pick out kimonos it was 12 650 Yen per person but so worth it it was such a beautiful and immersive way to appreciate and experience Japanese culture who wants to try this

Just walk around Gion at night and you'll see some girls on their way to see a client. My brother and I would get in the way of assholes taking photos without permission. He's tall and I'm wide lol

80 bucks for someone to do your full makeup, rent a full kimono and do an entire photoshoot seems like a good price, ngl…
I think at this point I’d rather go the Cosplay route in Japan, but really really pick out animes like Ruroni Kenshin (a lot of the garments in this anime are really creative modern takes of very traditional Japanese clothing) and Kobayashi Dragon Maid and like really get some real actual clothing one of which is really traditional and the other represents the era of Japanese clothing style through now which is like internationally mixed (I specifically like Tohru’s style that seems to draw from old U.K. and Western clothing style traditions) with Japanese flair. Ah yeah plus maybe the tiniest bit decora for me. Yes!

If you’re in Kyoto, you can increase your chances of seeing a Geisha or Maiko by walking around the Gion or Pontocho districts. If you’re there in April, you can also see the Miyako Odori.

Last time I saw a Geisha in the street in one of the back streets of Kyoto I felt so bad for her. She stuck her head around the corner of the road that she walked down to see if any tourist were nearby in the next street and if it was safe to walk without being harassed.
