Just like Japan’s well known wagyu beef, Korea also has hanwoo, which is very expensive in Korea. They are priced closely to each other, but they both taste AMAZING without a doubt. In this video, I’m going to visit amazing restaurants in Korea and Japan to try both of them and see how they compare!

so you guys might already know this but Japan has their wagu beef which is very very popular internationally but Korea also has this thing called hanu which is the Korean beef and it’s arguably equally as good but the important question is which one is better W today I’m going to try two different beef one in Korea and the other in Japan to give you guys a fair comparison tell you guys with 100% honesty how these two compare and now allow me to try the hanu place I also got a good friend with me today my skincare goddess young yes very nice to meet you again it’s been a little while all right let’s go into the restaurant and see what’s up I wouldn’t say this is the most luxurious hanu restaurant but it’s looking like it’s on the fancier side for sure wow even the ChapStick and the fork they look nice they also give you salt mustard and wasabi to go with your beef looking fancy as hell they have alcohol pairing if you’re one of those annoying rich people oh he might be one of them well I’m not that kind of opar there’s their hanu combo oh they have English menu too that’s great news for you children so we got their 800 G combo which is about $260 and that should be enough for three people they also have some interesting side menu they have hanu Ramen or Raman I believe which is kind of crazy that’s like wagu cup noodles hanu soybeans toew hanu jangan they’re like $15 which is a ton of money to spend on something like that in Korea but then it’s not like insanely expensive depending on how good it is obviously this is an unusual amount of money to spend on a typical K barbecue dinner but usually hanu is very expensive so I would say this is just a little bit on the pricier side for Han yeah we got some banchan yeah you get panchan for free can you believe it oh and here’s something that I know I’m going to love so this is their UK or beef tartar beef Sashimi they only use soloin and skirt for this UK typically they use a a little cheaper part it kind of feels like ground beef sometimes this has got to be legitimately good right so Korean food usually comes with a lot of side dishes especially in more expensive restaurants and the side dishes here they definitely meet my Korean beauty standards even their charcoal look nice that’s some krama looking charcoal too this is aged kimchi and that’s youngster kimchi called Ki that’s little boy kimchi Grandpa kimchi okay the hanu beef is here let’s check it out wow you can clearly see that these are beautifully marbled and all the extra fats nicely trimmed off too it’s almost as pretty as me you’ve had hanu before too right you’ve had it a bunch of times I about hanu every single day so far I prefer hanu way over wagy my personal yeah I think for eating in larger portion it’s argu arguably better yeah yeah yeah larger portion it’s like you taste the beef more the beef a lot more it’s more meaty and that’s what I I want to eat the cow so this is 800 G of different parts of hanu that we’re going to be eating today it’s not super fatty like wagu but you can see that there’s a good amount of marbling and our waitress will stay with us and cook the meat for us oh she knows what she’s doing let me start with this beautiful appetizer that that is yuk so this has a sliced pear with it too supposedly it’s already been seasoned oo wow it might sound a little weird that we eat raw beef like this that’s what I thought too but it is absolutely delicious there’s a strong flavor of sesame oil which I really love go to a Korean restaurant try it especially the ones that come with sliced pear that is just unparalleled good rub be comes with the sauce uh she said we don’t have to use the sauce it already come seasoned arguably better with sauce now here’s the thing hanu literally means Korean beef but us Korean people especially us middle class Korean people we don’t really eat hanu reason being hanu is extremely expensive in Korea I don’t know why it just is if you went out on a dinner with a family of four you’re looking at something like $200 which is a lot of money to spend in Korea a lot of people in Korea make like $2 to $3,000 a month actually if you’re making $3,000 a month you’re on the better side of the population so yeah ironically we don’t get to experience Korean beef all the time but I guess today’s my lucky day outing with my good opar [Music] too he’s very impressed by it some places make the UK like way too cold this is a perfect cool temperature really good seasoning it’s terrible when it’s like icy that upsets me it’s like expensive don’t ruin it and here’s my first piece of hanu I’m going to have some wasabi with it so this part is called Jeb Chui in Korean or neck chain in English it is a very muscular cut so I was wondering if it’s going to be tough but little did I know wow it was mostly muscles but somehow it was very tender at the same time I would say hanu has its distinct flavor that is a little different from American beef as far as the tender this I would generally put it between American and wagu beef but in the world of food it’s not always better to be like super tender and super marbled sometimes you need that balance I feel like hanu has that balance dude you would have to be crazy to not like hanu dude I’ve had so much hanu but this is probably one of the best hanu so far oh okay let’s try the skirt meat this time going to grab it dip it in salt wow again I feel like in hanu there’s the distinct flavor of the fat that is different from the Japanese beef or American beef and we’re starting from the leaner cuts of the beef so it’s going to get more and more tender from now on I just cannot wait man I feel like Korean beef makes a really great meal you’ll notice that uh in Korea when you go to some of the nicer places the people that work there here they are they’re extremely professional uh they don’t take tips and uh they all look really fantastic as in like they look very well put together I was trying to say it in a respectful way instead of going oh they hard dude back in the days if you had kimchi in your lunchbox and you brought it to school that’s like a fast track to getting bullied or at least getting made fun of so much trauma were you the kid with kimchi fried rice yeah Ki fried rice you know like Yi and everything only the Chinese kids would be like what’s that can I try now look at us now we just put us on the mouth now all you want King cheese oh man that’s the beef tenderloin going to have this with salt oh that looks almost raw have some with mustard it was still a pretty lean meat but somehow it was still extremely tender if I become a rich Korean boy I’d be eating this every day every meal of the day it’s weird because this is pretty lean but the muscle itself is like really soft it’s like a really flexible athlete who’s been like massaged every day I’m about to have some Pim Chi which is green onion kimchi in Korea there’s like a 100 different kinds of kimchi that number seems a little bloated I will give it to them though in all fairness they taste very different from each other and they are all relatively healthy no I would say they’re all very healthy for you oh man I just feel more patriotic now so no doubt the meat here is really amazing it’s tender juicy and flavorful but let’s try their side dishes as well you got to be kidding me it’s the most expensive Ramen that I’ve had in my life no I wouldn’t say Ramen it’s Raman [Music] Ah that’s like the most expensive chapagetti or chpi that I’ve seen in my life I wonder if this actually came from chapagetti are you kidding me that’s the soybeans stew that you see in a lot of Korean restaurants and that one has hanu in it too well in fact this has hanu that has hanu and that has hanu too okay let’s start with the hanu ramian this is a lot more expensive than a packaged instant noodle so this better be good good so there’s a good chunk of hanu beef not dried green onions but real green onions onion okay I’m going I’m going to stop saying that it’s getting old and grab some hanu with the noodles if I had to be 100% absolutely honest with you guys the soup itself or the noodle obviously doesn’t taste too far from a packaged instant noodle the hanu and the fresh vegetables were good I just don’t feel like it’s enough to justify the price tag this time I’m going to try their hanu jangan or hanu black bean noodles and again it was very close to eating just an instant noodle in fact I think I can tell which brand it is now I wouldn’t recommend this at that price range unless you come here ready to spend that money but is this a very good tasting food it is I hate to admit it but these instant noodles are heartbreakingly good good so by adding hanu and egg it wasn’t a great deal but it tasted really good I would argue that Korean instant noodles they have some of the best price to Joy ratio it’s like you pay so little and they’re so tasty except this wasn’t that affordable but you guys see my point right lastly let’s try the soybean stew which is not an instant food okay honest question is the hanu worth it every now and then every now and then definitely yes something treat yourself if you’re going on a date if you feel like you did something great in your life to celebrate something hu is definitely worth it I would prefer 100% hu over wue for any type of meat situation oh shots fired oh this is biased opinion this is not what I think oh is the worth it that’s a different question okay let me try it usually the soybeans Ste like this it’s about a third of the price the only difference I see is honestly they have some uh pieces of hanu in it I I mean I I’m sure it is delicious yes it is delicious but that is a lot of extra money that you’re paying for this hanu right so I would say save that money get a little more pure hanu barbecue I’m going to take this bowl of rice be very Korean dump that Rice into the soup oh God this is Korea is it expensive yes is it delicious 100% by the way you can do the dump more rice in a technique with almost anything that’s Korean like Korean instant noodle soup or kimchi stew soybean stew like this sometimes I see a Korean girl and I want to have fun I just take a bowl of rice and just dump it on top of her head just kidding that’s never happened to me don’t do that gato yogurt as the dessert I would say that the dessert was good but considering the price range of the restur restaurant I wouldn’t say it was anything special so what did I think hanu will always be pretty expensive it is worth the money for like special occasion and it is absolutely delicious now that I’ve tried my own country’s best beef should I try some good Japanese beef too come on let’s fly to Japan I have a special guest with me too so I’ve come to rongi in Tokyo which is this extremely nice neighborhood and they have a lot of super expensive restaurants here and I’m going to a very nice tap on y restaurant today and to enjoy this amazing day I’ve got my very good friend hello I’m Le she’s the Rick show driver that I met last year we still kept in touch and we’re doing this video together let’s go I’m so hungry as soon as we entered we were welcomed by these super fatty chunks of beef and we walked into the private room that we [Laughter] reserved it looks so nice I’m nervous we haven’t decided exactly what to get but we wanted to get one of their Co meals it’s pretty reasonable it starts from like only 5,000 yen I was a little surprised because their lunch course was just over $30 which sounded almost too good to be true you can choose what kind of meat goes into your course they seem quite a bit more affordable than hanu but to be fair their portion was a lot smaller as well if you guys remember I got 800 G of hanu Aller but here we’re getting about 100 to 200 g of beef per person so it’s a tanaki restaurant where the chef will cooked the meat here and we got to see the beef before cooking them wow I feel like at least when it comes to the beauty competition W you already won and ran got the seafood combo so we got some seafood as well I’m Instagram the chef is oiling up that pan nice smell you can eat as much as you want okay thank you I’m so happy if you consider the net weight of the meat the price of this wagu is similar to hanu which is not cheap and that being said I know most Koreans don’t eat hanu that often so I wonder if people in Japan eat tanaki often so in Japan do they eat tanaki often so so maybe once a year once a year yeah oh once a year I feel like a lot of young people in Korea like to dine out for fancy food every now and then but it seemed that people are more often Frugal when it comes to food in Japan not saying Koreans are doing it wrong but it shows different priorities in their culture I’m going to show you around you’ll show me around yeah of course then I have to come so we’re going to start with some Hamburg steak which is a beef patty and the seafood combo came with macel and shrimps that’s good oh it’s super tender yeah best hamburger ever best hamburger ever oh oh it just cuts right through it’s like tofu I mean it’s just a beef Petty so how good could it be wow Ser it’s so juicy it’s like half water Japanese normally Hur sauce because this is so good I feel like it’s better without the sauce this is also best shrimp ever oh really we both enjoy the fish and the shrimp but let’s move on to the main business the big juicy beef yeah even the potato looks amazing look stop waa wow it’s so still so red on the inside just cooked perfectly on the outside aside from Wasabi and salt they also had this special dipping sauce called Koso which is made from CH peppers and Yu well let me try that too that is the definition of perfection wow just soft though yeah it’s super soft and it’s like so evenly tender this was a relatively being cut too but it was unbelievably soft let’s let’s try this too now this one being even more marbled I imagine this is even more tender oh my God it just melting yeah it just melts usually like when people say oh it just melts it’s like nah it doesn’t really melt this one it’s so tender that you might not even have to chew like you could crush it with your tongue it’s so soft a dining experience isn’t defined by just a single bite but at least when it comes to that magical juicy delicious first bite that makes you go wow I thought that the Japanese wagu had that over hanu it is by far the more tender and juicy one out of the two and Chef is making our garlic rice ah garlic rice garc rice she going to tell us what it’s like chef garlic FL you like that too so special really special okay let me try the garlic rice as well guys it’s so good it’s so buttery the flavor of the butter garlic and the Egg it’s so strong and this is called OAS so this is rice that comes in a green tea on W to it so to some of you guys it might sound a little odd that um somebody eats rice with tea I tried it before it’s actually really good oh I’m so glad I came here the the food here is just phenomenal out of this world probably one of the best dining experiences ever for me so it has some dried seaweed some wasabi with it too rice and the the wagu beef inside too oh wow I don’t taste the green tea that much it just kind of feels like a really nice broth it’s almost like a soup what really surprises me is that I’ve actually come here to film something that is insanely expensive expensive turns out the food is actually not that expensive yeah it’s this is so awesome oh okay let’s try that one wow that’s beef sushi beef sushi oh my God oh wow so so she’s so excited so oh she’s cutting it up like that just a beef just be oh my god wow so tender unbel believable how do eat it [Music] okay I have to eat this too oh my God wow it was so shockingly good that I couldn’t even find the words to say I’m speechless this is so good so juicy it’s like every time you chew your mouth becomes a swimming pool or fat it’s so good so this is a tanaki french toast which is a very new thing to me okay I see lots of butter so I like that wow yeah I don’t know what it is it just looks good I thought it might be abur but they explained to me that this is baguette they served it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and now that looks more like a french toast [Laughter] wow the baguette must have been soaked in egg for a while because the inside of the bread was almost all egg look at the egg inside it’s so amazing it’s so sweet too so sweet yeah there’s the black tea that’s part of the course and also this chocolate ice cream that is also part of the course we just got this additional ice cream so that is pistachio H and even to the last dessert their food was simply amazing okay we got a lot of food so I hope the bill didn’t end up to be too big I’m actually surprised that it’s not even $200 for the both of us oh that was really good I got the I thought the restaurant was really good but uh what did you think about this restaurant everyone have to go everyone has to go yeah this is like the definition of a good tanaki experience I genuin believe that it’s not going to get much better than this this is about as good as it gets thank you for coming with me see you soon so yeah it’s very hard to say anything negative about this restaurant and at least when it comes to the side menu the Japanese restaurant definitely beat the Korean restaurant Al so Jimmy which one’s better the Korean beef or the Japanese beef I think the Japanese wagu beef is by far the more tender one whereas the Korean hanu beef it’s not as marveled and not as tender in general but it has that distinct hanu flavor that is unique that I really like and since hanu is not is fatty you can have lots of hanu in one sitting and have a very fing meal whereas with wagu since it’s so rich or oily you do get tired of it a little faster that being said I think both are amazing beef that I’d recommend anyone to try at least one time and they’re quite different from each other so you should decide for yourself which one’s better anyway thank you guys so much for watching this video goodbye my friends

Hanwoo > Wagyu okie goobai π€
From anecdotes from people who tried both they say wagyu is more tender and rich while hanwoo has stronger beefiness but not as tender or rich
"im thinking of moving to japan"
"Ill ahow you a lot!"
Bro my fucking heart
I finally became one of the Jimmy fans who started shipping him with his guests

Quality content as always Jimmy!
Bro your last name is Kim for sake, you call Japanese beef Wagyu and Korean beefβ¦ Korean beef? For real..? It is called Hanooβ¦
Jimmy and Rie have a pretty good chemistry ππ
Her English and Korean is so good. She's a keeper!
Baekmiwoo in Nonhyeong-dong and New Matsuzaka in Roppongi π
Can we for a second talk about this mans Rizz
Now do AYCE Hanwoo vs AYCE Wagyu
kroean selling wagu as korean beef so they are the same you know?
this is just laughable just google it how korean beef was like 5 years ago
it didn't look like this
Wagyu beef, Japanese rice, fruits, etc. are popular around the world because they are properly managed luxury brands.
I've never heard of "Hanwoo," and like Chinese beef, there are concerns about sanitation. π
Tried both. If you try Hanwoo for the first time its amazing. If you try Kobe for first time, you cannot believe itβs beef
The reaction is perfect. Hanwoo..soo good. Wagyu..omg
I tell you this. They both cost very similar for top end. If u have to pick one to try, i would recommend A5 wagyu. Hanwoo, it will be like ya its great but its in the realm of beef. A5 wagyu its like you are trying different animal for first time
Rie-san is so cute. Love this comparison video. Iβd love to try both!! π
6:42 even without seeing her face we could say she's hot , dw
If you make a hamburger patty by grinding up regular beef with a lot of fat so it looks like wagyu and goes down like butter, would an average person notice that it is not wagyu?
It's kinda sad that in NZ, your Hanwoo ramyeon and black noodle prices are cheaper than what we pay for standard Korean meals.
i feel like hanwoo and kobe beef would be a better comparison than just wagyu, no? lol
Do a MRE.
Stolen Japanese wagyu sperm
You guys should seriously date…
Whoever is fine, the first guest or the second guest π
Great video as always Uncle Jimmy.
Seeing you and Rie enjoy the food put a smile on my face.
