Where the LOCALS eat in Key West (Avoid the tourist traps!)

Key West. Some go to party. Some go to see historical locations. I go to eat. Food is the game and Key West is the place. But, where do you eat at? What restaurants are good? There’s so many choices and so little time. What you DONT want is a tourist trap restaurant. Finding the local eats is always the best choice. Key West is a huge tourist destination, so how do you know what’s a tourist restaurant and what’s a local spot? Well, come with me and I’ll show you what I found! I go to where the locals eat in Key West!

in Florida I’m meeting up with my
brother and we are going to Key West and
we’re going to eat our way across the
island it’s going to be a good one let’s

right here we’re taking for the weekend
all right first order of business we got
to find an oyster bar here get some raw
oysters ain’t that right Kevo that’s
right
H this Tower was $85
so
$85 for some seab boogers all right Kev
all right what do you think what do you
think $85 for that thing yeah I mean
it’s Key West
pric where we at Hogfish Hogfish it’s
located right next to a marina you got
to kind of ski and skirt down a little
roadway through residential and then we
are here at Hogfish we heard this place
is pretty good you got the whole snapper
go ahead I got the uh Hogfish sandwich
so apparently this is
Hogfish and it has onions and mushrooms
and swiss cheese on it with uh some
Frenchie fries I’ve never had hog fish
before but it does taste like every
other fish I’ve had instead of f
sandwich think they had a good
presentation with their food service was
great our server our server was awesome
awesome but but but I think I I don’t
think the food was necessarily bad just
wasn’t anything to write home about I
think it was very average nothing stood
out to me you made a good point you were
like why do I like the french fries more
than my main dish and I also felt kind
of the same way so I think there’s a
little bit of problem there this
restaurant was hyped up I think that’s
the point to take home if the french
fries on your plate are your favorite
part about the meal maybe it’s not the
best maybe later on that night my
brother and I were eating some euros in
the hotel room that we got from a fast
food joint down the street and we were
were contemplating and thinking about
how the Euros from a fast food
restaurant actually tasted better and
were more enjoyable than some of the
other restaurants we were visiting
during the day we were disappointed and
felt defeated that these nicer
restaurants where we paid a lot of money
to eat at just weren’t up to par and we
were contemplating on how to save this
video and save our food vacation so I
woke up and I went to the local food
truck that was inside the hotel I sat
there and I ordered some food it was
traditional Cuban food and I ate the
food and as I was eating I realized
maybe I’m look looking at this all wrong
maybe instead of going to nice fancy
Seaside restaurants we need to do
something a little different so I
thought about it and came up with a game
plan and here is what we did I went back
to the hotel room I looked around
cleared the desk off cuz I needed some
working space I slapped the piece of
paper down I got on my phone and I
started looking up all the little food
trucks and greasy spoon places in Key
West nothing fancy tried to find local
threw my shirt on sat down got my shack
shoes out pumped them bad boys up and
got ready to go out for the day pit
viper on and let’s get it
if our calculations are
correct this is a food truck called
wasaka Key West Caribbean quizi and
fresh of fast Venezuelan food from what
I read online
so I think we got a banger here what’s
happening what’s the name of your place
how do you say it Waka W waga yes okay
this is I heard this Venezuelan food
yeah authentic Venezuelan authentic
Venezuelan that’s what we’re after right
authentic food okay excellent what’s
your specialty I always recommend the
kapas the last thing on the menu theas
kapas that is sort of like a corn
pancake um but it comes with me fresh
colada fresh

first this smells like a bubble gum red
something oh it’s good honestly it’s
really good I like how you roll the r on
that cuz cuz it’s like fres yeah but I
would just say it’s Venezuela

is heavy dude the sun is we are in Key
West the sun is blaring okay check this

the flavor are incredible dude that’s so
good let me try this they’re
unbelievable unbelievable flavor I love

ropas this is the pork and the cheddar
ropas yeah when I go camping I use a
ropas to like tie down

kacha is better quality food it’s tasti
your food and it’s cheaper on top of it
and you know what and you’re supporting
like local the money goes directly to
the CHF right the food was awesome thank
you this is this is the best thing we’ve
had since we’ve been here thank you so

kimchi and it looks like some kind of
GOI Jang sauce or something is that what

Jang uh honestly I think it’s
Sriracha that Sriracha Sriracha so this
is kimchi with sriracha sauce on some
kind of hot

sa some cheese on there is it oh there’s

corgi dog Ki dog this we’re eating corgi
dogs Ki KI dog Ki this is the Kobe ASI

toasted that hot dog is a high quality
hot
dog that’s a big bite right there all

KY I only got a little hint of the
gimchi flavor so it’s not like a super
strong pungent sour or spicy gimchi
that’s okay though because they got to
appeal to everybody you know what I’m
saying like if they made it cuz you make
kimchi kimchi if they made it like you
made it where like for True Koreans
people might be turned off by cuz came
you so pungent smelly you know I
definitely taste essence of Korean food
in there right I don’t really think that
I’ve come full circle with cheese on
Korean food I’ve been seeing it a lot
videos people putting cheese in their
Ramen and for some reason my brain just
says no right but but I shouldn’t really
cut off people’s creativity so this but
this is a fusion food so I’m okay with
it on a fusion if this if they were
trying to pass upu as a traditional
Korean dish I’d be like no uh I’m good
well no once you put Chee on it it’s
really not but this is a fusion American
Fusion Korean thing going on here I’m
trying to
accept I like it more Fusion food I like
this I think this is a home run not

there’s a yellow like a yellow rice and
what these uh plantain the oh the
plantains okay you got the lime to put
on it and then right here I don’t even
know what one this is called what’s this

flavor eat some onions wet the plas

but you could tell it was like fried in

here with cinnamon on top homemade rice
pudding good probably some of the best
rice pudding I’ve ever had oh the flavor
is coming out of it there’s like
aromatics coming out of this rice buing
also they have homemade

camera died before we give the final
thoughts on El sibony restaurant so
here’s the thing we’ve thought about
this
overnight and what did we think 10 out
of 10 I mean 10 out of 10 I mean the
place was phenomenal uh you can’t I
don’t think you can really get more
local than that
for
foodwise some of the best Cuban food I
think I’ve eaten ever ever the staff was
incredible the people in there were
incredible the the price was fair the
price was fair the food was incredible
the Ambiance was awesome and we were
talking about how we love where we pull
up and it looks kind of like a like you
know everything’s a little sun-kissed
Sun faded you know and you’re like kind
of wondering is this going to be what’s
up with this and then you walk in and
it’s beautiful inside and you’re like
yes we need to eat here and I think that
that would be a good place to take your
family if you’re visiting the keys
you’re visiting Key West you want a
really authentic awesome family dinner
and a good time go to El sibony yep El
siony on Stock Island Stock Island we
were kind of full when we ate there too
yeah so that’s the that’s how you know
it’s good that’s how you know it’s good
if you go there when you’re full and
you’re like this food is like banging
then you know that that place is is off
to chain son right we had appetizers oh
desserts s to me sing to me sing to me
m check it out we are at the Marlin Cafe
it is a food truck here it’s uh Deval
Street’s like another another street
over something like that this is the
food truck right here front of the the
blue marlin hotel right there so they
have uh they have omelets here breakfast
platters they got a lot of breakfast
stuff going on it’s served till 11:30
a.m. then they got the dinner all the
platters and tacos and sandwiches sides
burritos all that stuff man they got if
you want coffees they have coffees
lattes so he’s giv us a little sample of
the beef brisket Bea I think I’m going
to go with the burrito taste

you come to Key West if you want fish
and lobster and seafood that’s great
there’s a bunch of restaurants around
but in my opinion they’re kind of
tourist traps um and it’s fine the
food’s okay but I don’t think it’s
exactly what we were wanting out of the
trip so I suggest Kevin suggests that
you go down and you find these little
spots these little food trucks these
little greasy spoon kind of deals where
you with the locals and the people who
live here and the people who really know
how to cook and put some flavor in their
food but that’s all we got for you so
