🛣️Stan and Rhonda from Over The Hill Adventures continue to travel across the country to the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. In this episode of Rally Bound & Beyond, Stan and Rhonda stay at a very nice campground called Okaw Valley Kampground in Illinois for one night. The next morning they head out to the Elks Lodge in Joplin, Missouri which they come to find out the first night is FREE. Back on the road the next day, they make an unexpected stop at Uranus Fudge Factory in Missouri, a tourist destination along the famous Route 66. This famous stop really likes to play on this little town’s name that will send you laughing down the road. On a serious note, Stan and Rhonda talk about what they saw on the road that really impacted Rhonda. Come with Stan and Rhonda as they beeline to their season’s grand finale adventure.

We’re 20 minutes from our stop in Browns toown Illinois woo I think Indiana Indianapolis was the hardest part of the drive today am I right yeah I was a little busy but when not wasn’t too bad I couldn’t look I I don’t know you’re seeing it wasn’t bad

It was okay so they’ve got the highway down to two lanes and then we’re right next to a semi and on the right side’s a uh the wall you know and it’s like oh my gosh I just I can’t look I can’t look we did the

Math and trip wizard said it was going to be 6 hours and 37 minutes so let’s say 6 and 1 half hours Google Maps said 5 hours and uh 5 hours and 30 minutes so 5 and 1/2 hours and we drove a total of 5 1/2 hours drive time and uh 6

Hours actually 15 minutes um was the total time because because we stopped several times for the dogs for us for gas so anyway Google wins Google is the winner so I don’t know their time is pretty accurate and um as far as drive time now what I

What I found is that trip wizard is probably more accurate with our stops so I don’t know if that makes any sense to you guys but it helps us out in our planning oh so you’re saying that trip wizard knows when you have to go to the

Bathroom it knows how many times are you going to stop to go to the bathroom two times that’s pretty good we just lost an hour yes we well no we gained an hour well we gained an hour yeah cuz we went back in time so it’s 2:30 instead of

We’re bringing the heat it’s toasty it’s 88° wow bam bringing the heat on October 2nd Barb in the office is just so nice super nice this is going to be a great stay there’s walking trails little fishing lake no license required if we wanted to and catch and release Catch and Release

Only right big rig friendly for sure look at that so we’re on the second to the end here huh 76 here we go pull through oh no un hooking looks level that’s fabulous at the lake out there a it’s going to be great it’s going to be a great stay we got another

Long one tomorrow we confirm where we’re going we don’t even know that quite yet not 100% all right go see if we’re level how we level oh so not level it’s almost 8:30 which is actually early for us it’s usually 9 9:30 that we’re on the road so we’re

Super excited to get on the road we have another long travel day today we’re heading to Joplin Missouri to the Elks Lodge fingers crossed they’ll have a spot for us water electricity this actually was a really nice day so if you guys decide to stop here if you’re

Traveling on the 70 there is a train the only thing I did here was the rumble a little bit what was that yeah it’s a train I don’t know where it is I think in the day we heard the the horn but didn’t hear it at all last night just

The rumble a little bit there is a it’s not really a path but you can walk the perimeter of the lake and we did that last night and the dogs enjoyed it it was really nice so if you guys decide to stop here you got to call Barb she

Answered after hours you can’t make reservations online only on the phone she was so nice so kind very um just informative and and helpful great stay after we left uh Colorado lrip State Park and we saw an accident and it was it was a a stark

Reminder right of just I don’t know get off the road if you’re tired um and what would you say just take it take it easy I don’t know I’ve seen it all so you know I know it’s impacting to you yeah because we do have video of it and we

Just decided not to show it it just just just a hor thing you know yeah and then we did look it up and and it was a fatality and it was just it was really tragic you know as a truck driver and it was just tragic so anyway I I guess I

Just bring it up because I was I was impacted last night it was really really sad you know and just praying for his family and and uh it was just like I said it was a reminder that we’re not guaranteed tomorrow we don’t know what

The road holds ahead and and we do our best to start each day with a devotion and a prayer and just asking God for his provision and his protection travel mercies amen you know there you go I had I had to pick this up because it’s loose

And if M’s that Critter M oh boy she’s going to lose her mind are you going to lose your mind Ms what’s that what’s that M over there Molly no move it that way you ready to run you’re not you’re you’re not oh jeez we’ve told you guys about this RV fuel

Discount program called open roads and then it’ll show us where we’re at and then it’ll show us the different prices now this is a loves and it’s $440 or 41 but at this place is $4 you know $410 I hate that they do the 09 you want to clean the windows yeah good

H nope not today so I’m looking for gas I’m I’m busy is a little bit of a bus I do my best to try to find Stan it’s not your fault s it’s not it’s not what I’m putting out there it’s just not worth it no I know it’s not worth it’s

Not worth 10 cents or whatever it is to sit here and wait and spend time it’s not worth it it’s just that’s how I calculate has nothing to do with you it’s a good plan but they only have one outside diesel pump and it’s just it’s

Not worth it yeah and the guy in front of us I guess hasn’t paid yet he’s cuz it’s not resetting I don’t know we do our best so we could have gone to that pump so pumped for $419 instead of $410 cents basically plus the 65 Cent transaction fees stam’s

Doing the math we’re saving what $2 and something cents for frustration is that worth it not worth it it was a little bit of a fiasco but we always feel like we pray for God’s protection and for some reason he’ll slow you down in certain ways and so we just have to

Trust trust that we’re just so Frugal when it comes to stuff like this you know we’re try to get the best deal on gas that we possibly can mhm but is it worth and tell me in the comments is it worth the Frustrations We just went through St Louis Missouri came over the Mississippi right in the middle of the Mississippi was partly Illinois and then um Missouri got to see the arch that was so cool we’ve actually been there before we’ve been in the arch we’ve been in the arch

We’ve rolled that little tram car tram car I know it’s crazy it’s like a little pod and and uh let us know if you guys have been there and seen it it is actually a national park and you can you can go up into it and then there’s a

Panoramic view from the top it is it’s actually really beautiful I didn’t remember it being so pretty and shiny I was reading a few fun facts I I didn’t realize it’s six it’s is tall as it is wide it’s 630 ft tall 630 ft wide well I

Don’t know if this is a fun fact but it’s a good fact that the insurance company that Ronda all your all your facts are fun okay good cuz I get them from Google so Google Google enlightens me so the insurance company for the project predicted that 13 workers would

Die and building the project and guess how many died nobody okay so no one died building it but in 1980 there was a guy who jumped out of a plane landed on the top of the arch and attempted to base jump to the bottom and his parachute didn’t open so that’s the

Only death that’s related with wait wait a minute so he parachuted onto the top of the arch that’s what it says and then he had a spare he attempted to base jump his auxillary EX auxiliary parachute what’s that a second secondary one no that that that wasn’t very smart should

Have he should have just taken the moment and parachuted and just glided through the arch yeah that was a bad decision oops another fun fact presidents are not allowed to go to the top of the arch the secret service has forbidden all presidents from ascending the Gateway Arch due to security

Concerns is that crazy The Only Exception was Dwight D Eisenhower cuz he signed the order for construction let us know in the comments if you guys have been there and what your experience was like and did you go up in the tram and go to the top or are

You afraid of heights it is a little spooky there and where did you stay in St Louis yeah that’s true that’s a Wallies look at that that’s that’s like a a buck Welcome to Uranus Urus Uranus Missouri home of the Pirates even all right who knew this was even a thing it’s a lot of fudge in Uranus it’s actually a Route 66 stop probably one of the better ones yeah we Route 66 it’s kind of dilapitated Roe 66 spot yeah we’re going to go

Inside ready thank You we got dous Vineyards well did you see um that’s moonshine down there got moonshine down there oh my gosh Wow oh There He Is We dang it how funny is that because congratulations to miror of Uranus tell what it said oh my gosh oh my gosh that was just too much stuff in there like makes you giggle you know turn a little red but uh just funny oh

It was a good stop it was good stop we did not buy any fudge we didn’t buy anything we just got a lot of good laughter and laughter is the best medicine for Urus you guys see that is that building look familiar that tough Bucky coming soon to Springfield Missouri wow man 44 whatever you got yeah the 44 soon coming so that’s on Route 66 right yes you saw it first here yes it’s coming it said beavers at work so

They’re working hard to get this open too bad be on Beaver Road we’re in joffin Missouri we made it um one more mile up the road we’re going to hit the Elk’s Lodge fingers crossed Prayers lifted they have a spot for us cuz they only have they only have three spots water

Electricity I’m not sure how much it is they usually maybe like 25 30 bucks a night so what did you say about this place it got hit by a I think it had get rebuilt cuz it got hit by a tornado if if I readd it according oh wow well I

Know they re it’s a reconstructed building yeah but I didn’t know why that’s crazy it looks like I might be wrong on that I don’t know well we’ll look it up it looks like a beautiful building too so we’ll hopefully we get to stay there if not uhal parking lot oh yeah Walmart’s

Right across oh Walmart’s right across the street we do need to go there perfect perfect we’ll just walk across in 1000 ft turn left onto South Cunningham Avenue see this is the SE yeah electricity that’s the 30 so I’m going to move up move up that

Way yeah cuz probably don’t want to um block any L do you want to go check in first okay we’ll go check in and uh we do you want me to wait with the dogs or just go with you you’re going to come with me all right we’re going so we went

And we talked to Irene Who’s the bartender in there and we got our slip it is free for the first night if you stay more than one night it’s $20 a night Elk’s Lodge but you have to be a member to stay here and Stan was ride in

2011 they did have a tornado that ripped through here and she said um they lost four people from The Lodge that night it got just ripped to shreds and I think 163 people lost their lives happened on graduation night and it it’s just oh tragic big spider in there oh run away

Run away Stan got big the other day something got him that could have been so while Stan finishes hooking everything up I’m going to throw a quick dinner together it’s funny cuz it’s almost 4:30 but our bodies are telling us it’s 5:30 now cuz we were on Eastern time for so

Long dogs know it’s dinner time huh Kobe he’s been hovering around waiting for his dinner I’m going to try to get them going a little bit later a little bit later a little bit later cuz we got to get back Arizona is uh 3 hours behind eastern time now until

They they fall back and then we’ll be 2 hours but anyway um got a quick dinner going then we’re going to head over to the uh the lodge and then I think they have drinks and uh free popcorn so we thought it’s so beautiful in there I

Thought we’d just go over there and hang out but quick dinner tonight we’re just going to have Alfredo Dan has his postco kibasa beef and I have my turkey super easy dinner healthy but you know side salad and and uh you can balance it that way easy Though up oh over that way you want it you want it high right here yeah all right I got to get over there hang on I see what he’s doing hang on I’m coming thank you you’re welcome I help you fold that fabulous day at the Elks Lodge here in Joplin beautiful

Property um a little rain last night quite a bit of rain last night stand watching is the radar and we have a little window right now and we’re going to try to hit the road we’re heading to Foss Oklahoma I don’t really even know

Where that is but it’s about a 5 hour is it 5 hours today it’s all getting to become a blur yeah I think it was 4 hours 44 minutes every day we’re going to get a little less a little less and then our uh so we have tonight tomorrow

Night somewhere and then we’ll be at the Balloon Fiesta but look at this place beautiful quiet no one was there next to us last night free for the first night what the heck you know Stan does pay dues annually I want to say we paid about

$125 last year for the Elks Lodge but what’s so neat is that like last night we went into the lodge and Irene was the bartender and she’s just the nicest lady she’s been around the lodge she said off and on for 40 years so she knew so much

About Joplin and about the lodge and and uh she was sweet and somebody bought us some drinks it’s just I mean there’s only like five people in there but it’s just that that I don’t know little bit of a family feel you have the connection of the Elks Lodge and then he knew

Somebody from the Elks Lodge where we lived and it was just kind of a neat uh social moment and uh then we got our popcorn cuz they didn’t have dinner last night that a little pop corn we had made dinner and uh we headed back to the

Trailer called it a night tried to upload a video all night long that finally got uploaded for you guys yay uh the things I tell you that we run into we use our hot spot on our Verizon but it it said it was going to reset on the 3D well it doesn’t reset

Until the 4th so we were a day off and um we were down to the nitty-gritty on our on our uh hot spot but we we got it uploaded and uh it is what is today the 4th I think October 4th so we should be

Home actually in 10 days I think 10 days from now if not 9 I think we’re ready well I know we’re ready we’re excited about the Balloon Fiesta and that’ll be our grand finale that’ll be fabulous all right so let’s get on the road before the rain Hits and The Storm come and

Uh get us where we need to go closer to Home

  1. What Brand and Model are your Mountain bikes? I was looking into getting new bikes to replace my old 1996 Giants.

  2. Sometimes you just have to enjoy the waiting in life. I get impatient also but it allows you to slow down and appreciate life😃

  3. The savings on a few cents a gallon for diesel/gasoline is not worth for me. And it is not so much waiting on a few cars to finish pumping their fuel. What gets me is the inconsiderate drivers that feel the need to leave their vehicle unattended in a lane while they shop in the store or use the restroom. Even when we are not traveling, my wife and I are always amazed at the time folks spend waiting in mega lines to save a few cents a gallon at places like Sam’s and Costco. Love your videos and the positive messages. God bless and take care.

  4. No, I don’t like waiting to save money at the gas pumps. If I can save 20 or more MAYBE. MY TANK IS 48 GALLONS. Ronda, telling that spider to run. No, No. Stan gave it the foot big time. Nice video. NOT smooth telling the spider to run that might have bit Stan. Well maybe still smooth.

  5. Passing through our old stomping grounds we live just north of Indianapolis now, from South Central Illinois and we lived in SE Missouri and Kansas City, MO we were just in Springfield been to Uranus a few times too! Enjoy….safe travels! Joplin was devastated by a tornado in 2011. We had some of our company employees serving food to victims and responders. It was a big mess!!!

  6. I truly believe there are no accidents or coincidences in life, God puts stuff, delays, etc in our way for a reason. We might not realize at the time, or understand but there's a reason.

  7. 30 years ago today, the daredevil John Vincent scaled the Gateway Arch using suction cups starting at 3 a.m. He wasn’t spotted by anyone until he got to the top at 7 a.m Where two radio traffic reporters saw John BASE jump from the top. We live across the river from the STL

  8. There is a Christian Activity Center on the East St Louis,Illinois side that we did mission work at so I’ve been up in the Arch 3 times. It’s amazing!

  9. I was up in the arch many years ago. We came down as soon as my dad found out how far it moves off center even on a calm day. Last September my husband and I went to Beaver Lake Arkansas, camping taking the same route as you did. From what I can tell they made good progress on the new Buch-ees.

  10. The Beech Lane Wireless Leveler or the Level Mate Pro is a game changer in leveling. Saves us a ton of time getting level. The Arch is so cool. We went there a couple years ago. Michelle’s first time, my second. We have a video about our visit and ride to the top. We chose pass through Uranus.

  11. We’ve been to St Louis many times and went to the Arch 2 or 3 times. I had fun going to the top, but the “pod” is unusual! I read that the museum has been renovated since our last trip. We have friends that live in a lovely suburb of St Louis, Kirkwood.

  12. I went to the top of the arch! The view was amazing! I was on my way to the Grand Canyon and I stayed at Rockwood Motor Court in Springfield. The owner is amazing!!

  13. That was a fun video! That stop at Uranus was hilarious. Dottie cracked up over the "fudge" gag. Thanks! We needed that! 😂😂

Too bad the Buc-ees in Springfield MO wasn't open when y'all passed through there. It opened before Christmas.

Looking forward to seeing your Balloon Fiesta footage. Did y'all run into FOS at the Fiesta?

Safe travels, and God bless y'all!

    Bob and Dottie

  14. I don't like new superstores like Bucks or even Walmart they then to close older traditional store and small gas stations. Fun to go too but not that great for local biz. Safe travels.

  15. Back when I was an over the road truck driver I drove past the Arch and always wanted to stop there and to see the Budweiser Clydesdales. Waiting at the pumps has always been a thing ever since they put diesel engines in pick up trucks. The unwritten rule that truckstops fuel pull forward going and pay. Safe travels in joy the ride. Thanks From Wisconsin

  16. We have been up in arch several times when our kids were young. St Louis isn’t too far from where we live so it is a nice place for a quick vacation. We have been by Uranus several times and haven’t been able to stop! We are always in a hurry. It is for sure a place we want to stop and see!!

  17. 1:46 Good video! We have not been to St. Louis before but would like to go see the arch at least once. Sad that accidents happen but glad you were not involved. ❤ 😢

  18. We loved the Arch. All my life, I thought it was a solid steel structure until we saw another You Tube couple go up. Now, it is marked off our bucket list. We stayed at St Louis/N. Granite KOA. The KOA was just ok. 🤷‍♀️ We are headed to UP, Michigan this summer. 😃 Love you guys…stay safe.

  19. We want ro be good stewards of our resources, however being frustrated is never fun. I do attempt to look at delays as His protection and purpose.

  20. Am afraid of heights but was guilted into going so went to top of Arch. Stayed at Scott AFB of course. Lol 🙃

  21. Yes, we have experienced the thrill in high winds and later on that night a tornado came through the city close o
To our hotel. We were on the 26th floor with the outside wall complete glass. I prayed a lot that day and night, it gave a pretty view. Glad you all enjoyed it. Blessings

  22. Its farty -far. Under the arch is a awesome museum. Missed best frozen custard on route 66 Ted Drews. St Louis home US largest FREE zoo in the home the 1904 worlds fair. Where also is a free art and history museum both free in forest park. But I'd camp in st Charles County a half hour drive away. One camping on Missouri river with an awesome bike trail Katie trail. Few minutes from historic st charles. Other camping 10 minutes down road with a lake and access to dog parks Vikings biking trails depending weekend free music pavilion.

  23. “There’s a lot of fudge in Uranus”. 😂 Too funny! Wife and I just discovered your channel. Maumee Bay and Alum Creek videos caught our attention. We are Ohioans (yes, you said that right) and those two parks are on the list as our favs. Travel safe.

  24. We were just there to the Arch on our way home from Yuma AZ a week ago back home to MI. We went to the top and stayed across from the Arch at the casino RV park on the IL side. The Buc-ee’s was open when we came through a week ago. Fun place!
