    Truth to be told, I was in japan couple of months ago. Went to a girls bar and had trouble conversing with the girls since my Japanese wasn’t good enough. After a short 5-10 mins hanging around, I was shocked to be charged 200usd. Was reluctant to pay but was afraid of the dudes standing behind me (obviously the bouncers). Overall, I’m not against the concept of girls bar, quite interesting if you could interact with them well it seems but as tourists, guess we need to be extremely careful

    I never could understand this sort of thing. Its all a bit degrading for everyone involved. The idea that you have to pay a woman just to talk to you. I just spent my time immersing myself in Japanese study and just speaking with people. I was quite proud when I was able to make friends with Japanese people who spoke no English at all. It was at that point that I felt I had learnt to speak conversationally and to somewhat function well in Japan. You meet far better people outside of bars, by simply doing the things you actually like to do and speaking with people who are willing to chat with you and have a shared interest of some sort.
