The BEST COFFEE TOUR In Medellin Colombia
In this video we head out into the Colombian mountains to tour one of their famous coffee plantations D’Arrieros.
We had a great time learning about the process whilst surrounded by the beautiful backdrop of the Colombian mountains.
This video is not sponsored, we booked this tour through Get Your Guide but just happened to genuinely love it and highly recommend it for anyone visiting the area.

A British couple from just outside London, England. We got married in 2018 and decided instead of a honeymoon we’d travel the world together. We saved money and travel points, quit our jobs, rented our house out and boarded a one way flight in 2020. We started this Youtube channel to share our experiences with friends, family and anyone who plans to travel to the places we’re visiting. We leave TKT tips/facts in our vlogs to give information that we wish we’d had before visiting. We hope you find our content fun & useful 🙂
#Medellin #Colombia #ColombianCoffee
Hola and welcome to another video in Colombia today we are going to prove there’s more to Colombia than just drugs there is of course coffee yay so we’ve just taken an hour’s Journey from where we’re staying in medin um up to the Northwest to a coffee plantation Kirsty
Pulled off a nice little life hack and spoke to our tour operator last night and they said we’ll come and meet you don’t worry rather than ask getting a taxi into town and then getting picked up so so yeah it was really good um got
Picked up by our our tour guide like I said less than an hour’s Journey um to this coffee plantation and we’re just waiting for a few more guests to arrive but we’ve got an exciting day ahead so excited to have some coffee especially because in medin where we’re staying
We’re staying in a really touristy area called laureles but it’s busy and it rained all through the night last night and in the middle of the night there was like some parade going on around 3:00 4 in the morning of just car horns beeping and holding their horn down driving past
Us we’re like what is this. so today we need all the coffee we’re in such a beautiful region as we drove up into the mountains with low Cloud it just is what you imagine the mountains of Colombia to be it’s fresh let’s go see some coffee places and drink a lot Yes we spent about an hour learning about diaros a family run coffee plantation here in the countryside just outside of median Colombia we trace the Journey of coffee from being a cup and got to see the freshly picked coffee before it’s pulled apart and roasted coffee is actually a stone fruit and the
Coffee Bean is the seed of this fruit following the separation of fruit and Seed the coffee beans are then dried which we’ll see more of soon something that’s done differently here to many other coffee Farms is that the thin layer between the seed and fruit mucilage is dried along with the seed
Which allows it to be removed without the use of water this keeps things as natural and sustainable as possible the melage due to its sweet flavor is often referred to as honey and while most Farms discard this part once it’s separated from the Coffee Bean here at
Theos they use it to make a sweet ice blended drink which we all got to try it was a really interesting start to the tour and our guide had great storytelling abilities and was really passionate about what they do here keeping the process as natural and clean as
Possible kind of tastes like a juice the antioxidants prevent cancer and this also very good to make you’re younger for example I am 15 years old but I doing this every day as I look okay so app the number of almonds you plant is the amount of babies you’re going to
Have so we’re going to plant two who’s next how many babies do you want two in the same hole or different holes different remember different holes means with different people oh no same hole I was thinking I didn’t you have to be loyal be careful very good there’s your baby
In the same or different h two will do so Kirsty said in different holes which basically means you’re going to have kids with two different people but if you have two kids I didn’t know I play in [Applause] one with Craig and Kirsty a couple who
Have been on the road for the past 3 years sharing our adventures around the world right now we’re making our way through South America and exploring everything it has to offer if you enjoy seeing new places and real experiences Please Subscribe and welcome to the adventures of Tide not
Travelers so we just started the tour off today by having a talk about how the coffee is made by the Paisa people and he’s also really proud to say that paisas aren’t just famous for drugs they make great coffee too so everything here is um done with um good agricultural
Techniques I prefer to say that rather than organic because for it to be purely organic you’re not supposed to have any kind of pesticides or fungicides or even shampoos petrol anything within 50 km radius of the farm so they obviously can’t do that but they don’t use pesticides fungicides or anything else
Here the owner Carlos decided 9 years ago none of that so actually you can eat the skin and the gooy layer that comes on the almonds inside the skin and then you can also eat the actual Bean itself which doesn’t taste too nice until it’s roasted glass um but um yeah they don’t
Use anything like that here so it’s actually safe to eat tastes kind of sweet and and then we got to try some of the coffee as well they wash everything with just water to get rid of anything bad yeah it’s safe to actually eat these whereas in other coffee places not so
Much so there pure Colombian coffee here at the to how you doing all Ked up this goes to the coffee Farm Dr like a paiser this been sitting for the last hour where we had our nice tour and now we’re all geared up in our Paisa gear we’re
Going to go off and pick our own coffee well I am I’ve got the basket this is fun [Laughter] Dom wow welcome to Columbia’s coffee mountains [Applause] [Applause] awesome time to head into the coffee plantation to pick ourselves some coffee beans back down the dodgy path snake infested path apparently this street with roer look it’s completely empty look at the yellow points in the leaves P of Ro P of Ro
Look all of this so empty empty empty empty but look the trees are empty but we are with Shadow because the big trees get fungus that infects the tree and stops it from producing the coffee beans look all of those what’s his name Mumu mono mono or
Blonde he loves sweet coffee look at this oh does he Coffey eating [Laughter] dog so does this mean he is crazy like the exactly but he doesn’t have four who knew that dogs like to eat coffee too you’re going to take your baskets you put all your coffee into this
Machine and you start to move the machine in front from left to right okay only on this way this machine is to peel the coffee so remember the skin go back look at the skin and the Cofe of the skin get here okay with your fingers you
Move it into the basket why we make this this only for the honey type remember the Cherry is the whole bean so the CH we don’t have to peel it it’s only for the honey with all your coffee there all of it fast fast fast strong strong strong oh yeah
Right faster faster faster faster two FAS faster faster I that’s all this coming out and then I just pull it down yeah hopefully there’s some good ones in there doesn’t smell at all like coffee another one where did they all come from he’s our dangerous tiger oh yeah he looks
Crazy I have no doubt he’s more dangerous than the other two dogs he looks like the boss Yeah this coffee in the artificial drying process will be ready in only five or six hours in the natural drying process the honey type that is this one takes 20 days and the Cherry type this one takes from 40 to 60 days so if you
Have your farm and they and they pay to you the same for artificial or the natural way you prefer to use artificial way because the artificial way is cheaper and faster for example okay 4 years ago we made a an experiment we put marijuana leaves in the bag and the
Coffee into the marijuana leaves at that time our coffee took the CBD Properties we were selling that coffee at $250 a kilogram at that time now we can’t sell it because the marijuana is illegal here in Colombia so if you are policeman no we don’t have if you’re not policeman yes we have
Okay remember this coffee ends the drying process when it’s with 12% moisture at that point we take it to the roasting process okay Matel you stand up in the coffee and your sure are dirty because we were into the plantation don’t worry remember this cup is with
The parchment with the shield of the cup okay look if I remove the parchment the coffee inside is clean okay so don’t worry the parchment is not for any food look at the coffee start to pass this for example this one so this clean now is the time for pictures you can come
Here I am a professional photographer okay so you can post like this like this five people one C so now want want to be first now it’s time for some lunch with these beautiful views deci eat the coffee and then they poop the coffee the Indonesian people
Collect the coffee from the poop and they sell that at a very high price I don’t know why the people pay that quantity of money for that coffee because remember the coffee is like a sponge that coffee taste and it smell like poop they to camoufl flavor they
Add vanilla chocolate or caramel okay that coffee cost between $1,000 to $1,200 a Kil okay look I have a small bag here this is small bag of only 100 G cost $120 so this is vanilla flavored coffee actually been inside this animal and then they poop it out and then they
Collect it from the animal’s poop so I’m going to pass up on this one but it’s super expensive it’s like over $1,000 per kilo so this bag is 100 G and it’s like over $120 something poopy vanilla coffee yum this one’s from Indonesia not here don’t worry we’re not having any poopy vanilla
Coffee I forgot to say this acts as Viagra and this guy here got stitched up with some at work by a colleague in there so much they Ro start to kill themselves hopefully this isn’t the poopy vanilla these are good doesn’t smell like vanilla with it actually smells really nice it smells
Really good yeah really good it smells it smells amazing so nice cheers now they G to from that is the nicest coffee I’ve ever tried so ni brother [ __ ] like because we exper we are not big for smells good remember sweet that’s almost like yeah that almost tastes like mold
Wineing before we take that we boil that with water che che honey and lemon do this I mean that doesn’t remind me good so now we’re going to have some plantain and some cheese which apparently tastes really good you got the salt and the sweet together but also it’s going to
Apparently prepare our palette for another coffee that we’re going to try later so here we go plantain and cheese cheese chicken it’s a nice mix I like it it’s made from cow’s milk the cheese as well Cy’s going to show us the official way my to try coffee now this coffee has no
Sugar no honey no nothing add because if we add something to your coffee you you taste only those props you can make all the before but at I didn’t hear any SL they’ve definitely done a lot of about Cofe today I think my main take home from his advice is to buy medium
Coffee that is light in color so that you can see that it’s not the the bad type and to always buy be yeah it’s really nice these guys are really authentic and show you everything just started raining which is beautiful sitting up here with all this green coffee mountains and just seeing the
Rain falling around us now it’s just it’s such an authentic location it’s outrageous yeah and we’re nicely covered and sheltered and obviously lunch is on its way now so yeah had a bit of talk coffee tasting and now food is on its way and we just get to sit and look at
This gorgeous view with the raining clouds this is like the dream that you think of when you think of going to see to do coffee tasting in Colombia this is actually exactly it so so now we’re trying the Cherry one with milk I like this cup SAU it’s my
Favorite cup so far so same same Tech because people us with milk water and they add milk to in the milk to be honest I can just taste and now there’s a little bit of I think because I’ve had so much good coffee that now I can really taste it
And that just tasted like milk and then a tiny bit of coffee afterwards whereas before yeah I think I’ve just been converted to drinking black coffee today about myself I love this little cup it’s so cute exactly yeah for example yeah I like it but I actually prefer it without
Milk the rain I can feel like a little sprinkle of rain where it’s got so heavy little bits coming through so nice and fresh after walking around the plantation it’s nice to kind cool down the last part of hour cof the launch Tac come on five signals to recognize a good
Col the first one buy your coffee in beans the second one remember always honey or cherry type in me medium high level rolls a stop to buy washed coffee the third one Matel how can I know if my coffee has chemicals or not like pesticide Serv fici remember you
Recognize if your coffee has chemicals are not drinking the coffee when you drink your coffee in medium orium high level roads and that coffee after half an hour produce gas varieties is because it has chemicals remember a good Cofe without chemicals don’t produce gas the fourth signal stop to buy domestic Brands the
Domestic brands in the world are bad because imagine that big Brands like a Starbucks wal those brands have only one farmer that produce for them no they have thousands of farmers that produce for them do you think that the thousand of farmers have good techniques most of them not remember the
Coffe is a very good business for the coffee shops not for the coffee producers so most of the Kobe farmers in the world use a cheaper and faster techniques so when you’re buying a domestic brand you’re buying a c full of chemicals B compost artificial dry okay exactly and my last recommendation it’s
The label if a bad product is is not good for you to show all the bad parts of your okay so when you are buying a bad coffee in the inform in the label you can see only the instructions to prepare your C okay but when you have a
Good coffee you can see all oh natural dry good compost free of chemicals medum medium high L Rose single origin coffee okay so the label is a very important signal for a good coffee so lunch has just been served and I’ve got a vegetarian option of course full wrapped
In plantain leaves unwrap it find out what it is feels nice and warm oh wow looks good got some plantains cany boiled egg yes some kind of potato going try the potato got a lot of flavor It’s like got Curry taste to it some food you’re awake now aren’t you
Yeah he’s ready now he’s ready to go time to check out the non veggie option yeah what’d you get okay so we got like some rice plantain an egg and a sausage there’s also some meat down the corner there as well awesome nice time to tuck
In not a bad spot for lunch and I just w a little book written by Carlos the owner of this place for answering a geeky question about the how long the coffee beans take toast dry out dry out one night a little B I’m happy a full experience While enjoying our traditional workers lunch of bandia Paisa we got to enjoy these incredible views across the Colombian coffee mountains after seeing it this morning with its Misty atmospheric early morning appearance it was amazing to watch it brighten up and show every shade of green we could imagine along with various Wildlife
Coming and going we even enjoyed seeing the tropical rain doing its thing and showing us just how this place stays so abundantly green and Lush [Applause] Yeah so included in the tour price that we booked here we get a little bag of coffee we’ got the honey roasted coffee comes with it and we also got a nice little where is it and we also got some natural sugar as well which is really
Nice so yeah now we’re going to head down and get on the horses it’s been such an authentic experience so far it’s been so good they’re so knowledgeable and just friendly and welcoming and so hospitable and beautiful I highly recommend it we booked it through get
Your guide and it was £45 per person but that includes us doing the horse riding you can do it without the horse riding and then it’s like 30 per person so which they’re ping us now so we set down let’s go horse riding Excited time for the Colombian horse riding training I bet you it’s different to both England and Argentina horses is the rain in front to the horse head horse back horse yeah on the time your horse want to go so fast you reduce your horse is walking as slow remember you H at
Your horse you move to right or to left you want to stop you s and release you up all time you use left side choose as slow and you up you take this one and you up as slow if you up so fast it’s possible you continue the other side now Friends
Start I move my horse go no don’t move it to left to left to right I stand and I going I going I going I going is to right you break so and release I go in front I break I don’t release my horse go back okay yeah Sports riding South America take
Two hey Simon Simon is the name to my horse Simon too Simon to Simon too and then this is my guy over here I get the bigger guy again good boy Simon too time to get on the horse too for yeah kirsty’s horse is pretty big I think he’s bigger than mine actually
Just look at these views horse riding in the mountains of Colombia wow okay that was something Journey here in the M well that first bit was uh quite Steep and narrow and uh on the edge of a cliff see gracias Amigo it’s okay it’s it’s go it’s okay good boy Patty good
Boy gracias Amigo but yeah just look at these views hi wifey what I Le about if you’re going to go horse riding in South America anywhere be prepared to go up some crazy terrain see one yeah that was sketchy that first bit you look really authentic some of the locals
Crazy we’re about 20 minutes into the horse ride now and uh after the first bit which is pretty steep and narrow and Rocky and tricky it’s been quite flat we’ve been through some Villages and uh now look at this Countryside this beautiful oh and here’s
KY yeah I got pulled back I could come and join you gracias this is beautiful this view oh gracias okay oh see see see okay it’sing just hold it’s working AI where you go yeah yeah SN yeah yeah see he’s goty colia colia started after a quick and somewhat
Intense lesson on how to ride the horses here we were off up into the mountains on Horseback which was treacherous but beautiful our horses had quite a lot of personality and as we left the mountains we treed through a small village and got to see some local and their dogs
Although quite a big chunk of the horse ride was on these main roads which wasn’t as scenic but at least it was flatter and therefore a lot easier to stay in the saddle this is much comfier than the horse riding we did in Manda although my horse Petty definitely
Wants to be at the front have to keep ping him back he’s a cheeky one all the way to Sano I like him good old Petty H oh bless she got the most chill horse back to the rants with a little uh Sprint at the end

One of them has been knowledgeable friendly helpful they’ve even waited for us to get some aerial shots for you guys so you can see how nice it is and if you don’t like horse riding you don’t have to do horse riding bit the others left um but if you do then highly recommend
