I would like a Japanese or somebody with deep understanding of the male mindset in Japan, to explain what it is with those cute girls holding signs on the street to invite men inside nearby adult venues.
I’ve been to red light districts in great Asian cities, and you may find the girls out when they are idle (typically at dusk) to show their beauty and charm by doing some small talk with potential patrons. Once the venue starts filling up, they all go indoors since any of them will make more money with a customer inside. However, the “street girls” in Japan are always outside, stand-still, quiet, and shy away of anyone approaching them (especially with a camera). Not to mention that some seem to be all alone at 2 AM.
Is it that Japanese men need directions to the establishment or risk getting lost?
Is it that they won’t read any posted sign unless held by an almost teenage beauty?
Is it they need a “free pre-view” of the type of girls they will see inside the establishment?
Man, it's crazy the amount of businesses is in the area you just were. In my city, there would be like half.

I usually leave that part of Ueno NLT the last train. So this is what it look like at that time. I often eat Thai and Vietnamese food here. I suggest Thai Kitchen Ueno and Hai Dong Quan 2. You can find them on google maps. There is an izakaya "Jamsu" that serves Korean food. It's pretty good. You can find restaurants in this area that are hidden gems. I'm a regular to many of them. I haven't had lunch in Ameyoko yet. I have to do that when I return in March.

Thanks for the tour, although some of those alleys looked a bit scary, lol. The place at 6:12 looked really inviting with the brick and wood exterior and all the plants. Also the Yuri Bar at 12:25 looked nice. I think the lady bartenders wanted you to step inside! Also, you've got to love the quartet of ladies at 12:45 who were serenading you with chants of 'Welcome to my Vlog'. 🙂🙃
Even the strip clubs are homely , usually they look like shitholes in my country, I don't like hanging with prostitutes though.
