This was actually the first time I traveled abroad WITH a SMARTPHONE. Seventeen years ago, I relied only on Lonely Planet and other guidebooks. I remember looking around for hotels upon arrival.
With a smartphone, we can check maps and make advance reservations for hotels and trains. I think we live in a very convenient age.
And what I learned through this trip is that when my phone's battery runs out, it means DEATH….
