ベッチャー祭とは？
1807年(文化4年)に尾道で流行した疫病を、尾道町の時の奉行、南部藤左衛門が各神社に命じて平癒祈願をし、病魔退散のお祓いを3日2夜にわたり行われた祈祷に由来するお祭りで、尾道市民俗文化財に指定されている奇祭。
今年で216年の歴史がある。
毎年11月1日・2日・3日に行われ、獅子が神輿とともに市の中心街を練り歩く。
3日にはベタ・ソバ・ショーキーの三つの鬼の面を付けた氏子によって、ベタ・ソバは「祝棒」で突かれると子宝に恵まれる。
ショーキーは「ささら」で叩かれると頭が良くなる。
そして1年間の無病息災が約束される、と伝えられている。
しかし、市内の小さな子供にとっては追いまわされる恐怖の1日となる。
毎年この日は子供から大人まで皆が街へ繰り出し、太鼓のお囃子に合わせて「ベタ」「ソバ」「ショーキー」という掛け声で三面をはやしている光景がとても魅力的で、近くに寄ると、叩かれる、突かれる、噛まれる、といった人々でもみくちゃになる。

Even people who are hit, stabbed, or bitten are messed up.
尾道ベッチャー太鼓とは？
正式名称は「尾道ベッチャー太鼓保存会」と言う。
1986(昭和61)年、尾道みなと祭に有志数人で演奏したのが始まり。
1987(昭和62)年、大連・尾道友港博覧会(10月25日～11月3日)に出演したことによって、「後世まで継承していく太鼓を」「ベッチャー祭を盛り上げよう」との思いから一宮神社青年部を中心に発足する。
1年間の活動目標はベッチャー祭の奉納太鼓。
5年毎の12月に活動記念コンサートが行われている。
いつも初心に戻って練習に励み、太鼓を通して、人を思いやる気持ち何事にも感謝の出来る人間を育てて行きたい信念で日々精進しています。
