A well worth trip to the first Atomic Bomb test site in New Mexico, at White Sands Missile Base. The Site is open the first Saturday in April and the first Saturday in October each year. I was surprise at the number of people at the site, as well as the jolly atmosphere. From a history perspective, it is amazing. The Manhatttan project was a amazing accomplishment for the Mid 20th Century.
Nuclear power and medicine has been very positive for the world, yet these weapons are truly scary. Seeing it on T.V is no like coming to see history.

  1. 0:56 – this was not the outer casing of the bomb, it was supposed to be but not used. It's called "Jumbo", and they planned to use it as outer casing, because they wanted to save the material in case of a failure. Later on, they just put it somewhere in the distance to look how it does close to nuclear explosion. There were almost no damages. The damages which now can be seen come from a later attempt to blow it up with conventional explosives.

7:15 – in close future there will be more dog poo than Trinitite.

  2. Thanks….great experience going there.  I would recommend anyone that loves History to go there in April or Oct…..

  3. You keep saying dropped as if the bomb was flown over the test site in a plane it was not it was suspended in a 50 foot tower The device Was a implosion type weapon the little boy which was dropped first on Hiroshima was a uranium type gun barrel bomb which required a 60 kg slug of uranium fired onto a uranium spike of the equal weightThe reason that this type of weapon was not tested is because it was thought to have been a guaranteed succes Long and short of it is that all I loved your explanation I just thought that there where a few small blunders in your explanation but otherwise was fantastic

  4. No one seems to remember that when Major Kong rides the bomb, he's backwards on it, better to face the camera. 🙂

  5. what is the difference between this, an going to a war museum, or an air show. They are both display of tools of mass human slaughter. You don't know what your talking about. Small Arms have killed hundreds of millions of more people over the course of human history that atomic bombs. In fact, Atomic bombs are the one weapons that have been given the most retstraint in their existence. We've only fire 2 in the history of mankind.

  6. WOW!!!!  You're a sour ass shitfuck!  No one gives a shit what your opinion is about why kids like a nuclear weapon

  7. Your underlying anti-nuclear attitude is showing. If you want a piece of Trinitite, go to the rock shop in Blanchard. I have a my sample. A piece of history.

  8. how is this any different from chernobyl? aside from it occured 40 something years earlier, wind works the same so were there ever any studies into the drifting effect of nuclear runoff.

  9. "People are having a blast!!" people had a blast, everything involving atomic testing is a blast. lol

  10. What don't you understand? Building and detonating the worlds first nuclear device was an incredible accomplishment and we Americans are damn proud of it. Why don't you get that?

  11. Dropping the bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki is what ended World War II and saving thousands of American lives in the long run
